[font=arial, sans-serif]We were hard pressed to choose only three winners. In fact there was a lot of debating in the Mixamo office last week about who should take the title but through the democratic process of hand raising, we finally elected the winners:[/font]

I would love to do this but I'd be totally blown away by those more experienced :P

Does the 15 000 tris include the weapon? (I would assume not) In that case, if I created a super hi poly weapon would it be acceptable in the comp? Additionally, would I be able to use a weapon I've previously created, or is currently WIP?

Just a few questions I had that others might like cleared up

I think you're supposed to use the weapons that they created and supplied for download.

I would assume the weapon is included in the tri count just to be safe and logical.

I'm not quite sure about what we're supposed to make. Are we to follow the realism of the weapons? Do we have to roughly follow the black silhouette forms?

Or is it an all-out just-make-what-you-want creature competition like the Dominance Wars? As long as said creature uses one of the weapon classes - but stylewise and such complete freedom?

I think it's really up to you. Their scifi character contest was similar, and had no restrictions on style or silhouette. As long as he/she fits within the categories and specs, just pick a character class and go nuts.

I don't see a rule saying "no old work" i for example have a to be finished character which would suit the contest pretty well and maybe i'll find the time to finish thenhighpoly, retopo the lowpoly and do the texturing etc. would this be allowed? I guess not as it would be quite a big advantage, considering the time that i had to put into. So if i would make the rules I would take care that this isn't allowed

Hey folks thanks for the interest.

1. You can create your own weapon. The idea is to create a class in one of the five described on the page. You can use the weapons we have if you like and or create your own.

2. Polycount includes weapons.

We're really open to creativity. Humanoid is about as complex as the rules get.

Could it be set up specifically with a material in a game engine or should it be made to easily transfer between whatever rendering solution (ie no fancy shader setup)?

Your character most definitely does not have to be human this is fantasy based be creative however characters should be bipedal.

First of all 15,000 tris total for all polygonal assets related to the character.

A base wouldn't count towards the limit. Also you are encouraged to create your own weapons as long as it adheres to the weapons class of your choosing:

what does it cover? it doesn't say the wip thread has to be made after the contest starts.

I have some more questions regarding "2048x2048 Textures Max":
Is that the explicit texture specification or just a maximum size?
Are we allowed to use 4x1024² instead?
Are we allowed to use fancy shader magic on any set of 6 RGB textures?

I was thinking along the lines of decals/emblems or swapping out different fur/fabric types.

Sorry about the weekend delay. Lets answer some questions people have. And clear a few things up.

#1 A new character is recommend and starting the WIP is assuming your starting after the contest has begun. If you have an older work there is no rule "against" it but to be far it would be nice to start something new.

#2 2048 for weapon would fall within the rules but I would say don't go that big unless necessary.

#3 if your not a 2d artist and a friend works out a concept art piece for you please use it, we're not going to be pricks about minor details like that.

#4 2048x2048 Textures Max, is a cumulative total. E.G. you can use 4x1024² instead.

#5 You can create your own shaders but nothing too fancy, lets keep it in the real time conditions area please

@Snader as long as it could still be run in real-time do anything you like with the shaders.

Sounds interesting. I probably could take part.. I've got a couple of questions though.

- About the style and setting, should it be absolutely pure medieval fantasy or it may be some mix of fantasy with let's say sci fi, steampunk etc?

- If I choose a knight, is that allowed to replace a shield with a second sword, make 2 swords instead of 'sword and shield'? I concern because a shield of any size would cover some part of a character anyway

And is that allowed to make, for example, a light armor set instead of heavy armor? Or if I choose an assassin, can I make 2 short or medium length swords instead of daggers?

- Also I assume we can make a character of any class of any gender, for example a female knight, a male archer, a male assassin. If not, please comment that

Hi bggeneral,

1. midieval fantasy is a target but if you want to incorporate some kind of magic tech (ala steam punkish) go for it, be creative!

2. Please try to stick with the sword shield combo if possible. If you want make a two sword users best choose assassin and make the daggers more like short swords. That would be ok.

3. Any gender is fine, just have fun.

Nudity: I wouldn't say "no" but it may limit exposure possibility if you win, when we try to spread the news to other media sites, so keep that in mind.

Cartoon style is fully acceptable!

@RiotForQuiet go crazy, it can be a tribal shield and obsidian sword with bone and rope armor and a huge mask. Really the only restriction is sword and shield of some type, even a buckler is okay for the shield.

This may be a dumb question, but can we do something sci-fi instead of fantasy? I got a pretty cool concept in my head, but I'm not sure if this contest will allow it.

Dudeman95 you can do something more sci-fi like if your thinking along the liens of "infinity blade" style. If has to feel fantasy in the end, even if you have glowing sci-fi parts. Might be up to the judges. If you think you can pull it off go for it!
