i just stuffed it into the importer and it doesn't look tooooo horrible solid. going to try to get at least a bit of influence from the scarf bones though.
Just saw this competition, so I would really like to throw my hat into the fray. I might be a little late, but hope there's time.
Anyway, it looks like fun. So, for this, I am going with Legion Commander since the character has a lot of possibilities. For starters, I like the default helmet, and the Roman-style hair coming out of the top, which was their custom, and thought that it would look cool having it be her own hair. I messed with several different design ideas, and settled on this one, where her hair comes out from behind and is tied up in metallic bands, which are yet to be added - sort of like a holding basket. It is very rough still - as said: a start from a rough sketch in PS. Edges need sharpened, it all needs shaped and cuts will be added. I really hope I can get away with not rigging the hair. I know nothing about how to do more complicated rigging.
Anyway, lots of interesting designs in this thread, so it'll be fun. As said, this is a rough start, but plan on being done by the weekend.
Looks awesome from the in-game/loadout angles, Ike but from the portrait view it looks like it's hovering above his hairline an inch too high instead of resting on it.
Well I felt that I had to make some changes to the general design to better fit a) the silhouette and b) the final polycount. That meant having to cut down on some of the decorations, which I have hoped to make up for in detail modelling.
ZBrush WIP shown below:
What I have here is a wooden pole with a few metal rings and a wrapped segment. The head of the weapon is covered in metal spikes surrounded by a metallic plating, which in turn shows evidence of battle damage and scuffing.
So, joining in for fun, hopefully I can get something done before this month ends.
Drew something up and mocked it up in 3D:
It's for Wraith King and I really wanted to not make another sword. Might make the side blades a bit larger to show that even more.
Also, I'm not up to date whatsover on what's on the workshop or what's being made, so if it looks suspiciously much like another item, please let me know
@vikk0: There seems to be a little bit of 'distortion' (for lack of a better term) near the end of the sword that isn't in the concept. There are some other differences, but I imagine that they are your own take on how the shapes should be/preparing for easier retopology.
Regardless, it is looking great and I'm sure you guys will go well in the workshop.
@two_larsens: Looking great, a really nice way of getting hair on LC. some of the wear an tear probably wont be visible in the 256 maps though.
@two_larsens: It looks like these bits of hair are clipping through rather than hanging over the edge imo, other than that it's looking really good. Love the way you've integrated the hair.
I'll set up some side by side stuff later on with the gem moved on top to compare. The way the mesh is made, there is no sliding of the armor or anything so it won't clip, if that's what you mean anyways. I'll give it a shot later. Thanks for the critique.
hope it's not too late in the day to join in!
been toying around with an animal based bomb for gyrocopter - and thats how i ended up with this
...WARHOG - legendarily fierce-tempered, and spontaneously combustible!
Going to concept up 1 or 2 other ideas before the weekend, and then possibly pick one to finish up next week. Well, thats the plan...
Quad that's freaking awesome! My only worry is that as a slot item on him there won't be any animation. Would love to see this little dude as a courier...!

thanks! its a shame it cant animate, but i didnt want to do a "bomb" style bomb so reckoned its better to try something different! Also, by keeping it as squat and stumpy as possible, hopefully the lack of animation wouldnt be too noticeable...*fingers crossed*
@two_larsens, Oh, I didn't thought about scraches! I hope It's still time to add. I'll talk with Magno. Thanks for poiting @Reyne, thx man! Yeah, retopo sometimes is a pain on ass
Well, regardless the scratches thing, I did some quick polypaint..what do you guys think?
More or less done with this aside from some minor tweaks. I tried the gem on top in game and it looked kind of goofy and distracting when he moves, so I moved it back. I did have some questions regarding normals though. In Max, I have my normals for the shoulder pad matching the other normal maps just fine, but when I import into the workshop the green channel was flipped. I inverted the green and re-imported which fixed it for a bit but then when I switched views it flipped them again. Has anyone had issue with this in the past? I want to make sure it imports in the correct setting but it keeps acting screwy.
Another quick Max render shown here - I've just been working on the colours and minor details for the weapon's diffuse map. I still need to work on the spikes, but I should be able to get started on the masks fairly soon.
sculpting this evening, Trying to decide I like better. I fear that the fine detail with the more eroded version will pretty much completely disappear after bake.

The proportions are odd on this. The handle is like a twig compared to the mace head
Needs some tweaks but I think I'm ready to put this one the wall. It probably needs an armor set to balance it out a bit. Ran out of polygons pretty fast with this one sadly.

oh good i actually finished.
not too many workflow kinks, other than a few silly mask shenanigans.
Wow, so many cool WK Swords here
Working on Magno's concept, still WIP

Might as well post my progress while here. Next up will be scratches and a bit of wear and tear, but not too much. Then mid poly, low, and texture.
This is after wear and tear.
Thanks!

Black King Banner by rocket and shock
__Ninja edit-
I got some more work done during lunch.
I think the gem should be on top piece, looks crammed in there and like it might get crushed when he moves around.

theres already a boar courier, so that gap in the market has already been filled No glowing exploding bomb pigs though!
So what do you guys think? I still kind of like it on the bottom but I think it could work either way. Any input?

Some really amazing work here, very inspiring & pushes me to try harder!

Top so you can see it better in the in game view
That tail, and wings won't work with the stock animations. I would consider this before you finalize the design
