Hi all,

I'm the release manager for Blender, and would be interested in where professional (and hobbiest) users would like future development of Blender to go, as well as what sort of funding interest there is.

I'd appreciate it if you would take this preliminary survey to see what sort of interest there is in funding Blender development directly in order to more fully meet your needs. This first survey is to get a rough idea of what the interest level is - where you think things are at right now; where you think things should go in the future. I'll use the top 10 feature requests and top 10 bugs as a basis for voting on priorities. (Ie I'll take the data from this survey, summarize it, then when someone signs up for the plan they can vote on the priorities from a list of suggested ones based on this survey, although write ins can be added also, etc.)

Survey of Blender Development goals and needs

If this survey shows enough interest than I'll try and get the ball rolling to make it happen. I already have a number of core developers who would be willing and able to put more time into Blender and focus more on what you guys want and need if the funding is available.

Thanks,

Tom Musgrove

Wasn't sure what to make of that myself as it's not something I've ever needed to use. But, if subs basically means users have access to some sort of priority assistance system then I can see that being very useful to those that need it, certainly when use needs to be fast tracked or some such.

Hi all thanks for those who responded to the survey. It is closed now, since I only wanted a bit less than a 1000 responses. The subscriptions are just a way to collectively fund development and prioritize features that the majority of users want/need. Although down the line it might become more of a paid support option - the amount that the majority of users are willing to pay (10$/5$ a month), is not enough for that to be feasible in the short term. Although devs do try and prioritize high urgency bugs as a matter of course.

I would be willing to pay $10 / month - $120 year. That's not enough? Or the amount of users willing to pay isn't enough?

I had an aneurism. But would it reduce all the shit we see being done with Blender? I would pay for a subscription if I could get a guarantee of that :P

    plippo,

it depends on the support, I'll try and give email support a whirl, it depends on how heavy utilization is.
