Hey there
My team and I are working hard on our first game "Future Man - Beyond the Past" which is an Indie UDK game. We're still working on an early prototype, but we thought "hey, let's get our idea for our game out there and spread the word!"
It's a game about a man who travelled in the past to make some important changes to an event in history, so the world in the future, where he comes from, can be saved.Because of problems while travelling back in time, he doesn't get into the year he has originally wanted to, but into medieval time. He now needs to find a way to get home. During his journey he has to face a lot of obstalces and enemies like humans of the medieval times, who thinks he is the devil himself.
The chivvy begins....
Thats the basic story, but of course we already nailed a lot more of the story already. We will update this first post from time to time with more details, so make sure to subscribe! We will make sure that everyone will be get informed if he wants to
Here's a short factsheet
- 2.5D sidescroller game
- Engine: UDK
- set in medieval times in mediteran setting
- .....
So I will stop talking, hitting in with some WIP images of some foliage assets and basic weapons
Hope you like our idea and the stuff that is coming!
UPDATE 14.05.2012:
UDK viewport grab
HP of the sword,Zbrush
Ingame shot of the sword (First pass of texturing)
HP of the woodshield,Zbrush
Of course we are open to feedback and constructive critique! Shoot!
Have a good time

Is the name intentionally really cheesy/lame/bad?

Sword's looking cool, but you can probably push it farther. This tutorial is great (Thanks Joe!)

Please...for the love of God and all that is Holy... re-do the logo
I realize the name is cheesy on purpose, but DAT LOGO. It just looks really photoshopped
Everything else looks good though!

Hey, today I worked on a better material and hayfork.
I created a Mastermaterial with all kind of parameters for upcoming props.
Also added a rimlight effect.
@Shantosa, thanks a bunch for the link But since the sword will be pretty small on screen I haven't really thought about putting in more details. If it would have been a first person asset, I would have done a lot more details
@ Selaznog, sorry that you don't like the logo, but we arent satisfied with it either. The "Beyond the past" is really giving us headaches. It's really hard to combine a ScFi with a medieval aspect into one Logo that looks good. Do you have any suggests for the logo
Anyway new progress:

Sorry for double post, but we discussed about a new logo and have a new WIP
What do you guys think?
EDIT: Refined it more:
Reads a little bit better now I think, what do you think about the mirrored P of "FMBP" though?

It looks a bit random, because it is
I just set the scene up for getting a feeling how some assets look together and harmonize with each other.
Cheers

Do you have any gameplay to show? So far it is just some random environment props, weapons, a logo that looks a little too much like the word 'Fap', and some bullet-point ideas for a game. I'm more curious to see the game in action, even in a rough state, than some wooden fences.

That mountain range seems to be at the wrong scale. It seems very small in terms of detail to size.
It also looks a bit like you're throwing too many polygons around, especially in the trees, which could give performance issues. (especially with overdraw) And your textures (for the buildings) need a lot of work in regards of repetition, stretching, symmetry, and extreme blacks.
Geospheres rule, regular spheres drool!

I agree with Snader^ about the scale and texture issues
I think mesh painting might be your best bet here so long as you keep the texture usage to a minimum this would definitely break up your overly tiling textures
I am digging the vibrancy and the overall mood of your scene but there needs to be more in the frame through some of your buildings into that screen shot so we can really see how the lighting is effecting your environment assets.
cheers keep going!
