Old (#1)
Hi folks,

Here's my issue, I'm creating some foliage for a particular environment and drawing upon a variety of techniques i've discovered after a bit of deep research.

The way i've approached this is by simple creating the trunk and majority of the large branches together, then produced several high poly branch sets with leafs and twigs with the intentions of baking them down to flat planes.

Im pretty much on the last hurdle of baking down the high poly branch sets down to flat planes and typically its this last step that's proving to be my misery.

Im using Maya, and the Transfer maps to bake out the color map and all other relevant maps, my issue resides with parts of the texture end up being missing, also planes which seem to sit on top of other planes render black squares obstructing the details below them.

Im using pretty high quality textures as well and i've noticed them rendering out quite blurred as opposed to their sharp, crisp references. Im using Mental ray, with all the usual settings cranked to high resolutions, using many samples and regardless of this i cannot get a clean map.

Any help on this matter would be a great help .

regards,

jb
