created [DS2] Mace, Glenatron
on 03-05-2012 09:48 AM
Haven't posted on here in a good long while, but gonna give this damn fine contest a go.
Very messy concept, which needs refining, but gives the general jist of what I want to do. Started off as an 'angelic' mace, but beardy didn't fit well. I'm leaning more toward 'maker' now.
Edit edit: Here's the newest version

What time is it?
Adventure Time!!!!
Ok now seriously this concept is just awesome. Maybe proportions don't fit into proxy bounding boxes, but you will lengthen the handle and it will be golden I really like it.. no skulls, no angles, no typical stuff.
Looking forward to seeing more

Haha, loving the love for AT! Skylebones: I'm a bit jealous right now.
Cheers for the comments guys, and good point about the proxy. I've gone through and rejigged the shape, changed the colour scheme, and also improved areas like how the handle attaches to the business end/pommel.
Gonna be a new way of face-planting people. And jersey shore? Oh god, why!?!? Arrrghhhhh

very nice update on the concept, it's looking fierce! i'm interested to see how the sculpted beard fits around the sides.

Nice! I really like both of those. While they look a bit too Greek for Darksiders style, IMO I think they are awesome designs period, and I'd love to see either taken to completion.

Cheers for the comments peeps! Yeah, I'm a tad worried it's getting a bit too God of War, so I might sling in some more jagged edges, and think about spikes on knuckles etc.
I'll be doing a quick doodle of the side profile before I begin to model. It's hard to show on the concept, but the curls from the beard will wrap around, and curl under the arcs of the fleur de lys. It'll change the silhouette a little, but if I'm careful, not drastically.

Really nice idea but I think having the head there is overkill. The fist works very well for itself, and I think it leans closest to angelic which probably means you'll need to add yellow tones to fit the theme.

There are few things that you could think about in my opinion:
- a laurel wreath on head put it more to ancient Greek/Rome than DS2 universe, maybe you should change this element to some kind of angelic tiara or just metal plates for maker?
- swirls on beard and handle are to round, they should have more corners like 90 degrees angle.
- beard is wider than actual head, maybe you could make beard smaller or straighten it up? (removing swirls at the same time)
Looking forward to update

I've adjusted the colour scheme. It's not 100%, but its a lot closer to the tone it should be. I've also change the fleur de lys to a winged bracelet, which needs refining, and added some more jagged edges (it'll be jaggedierer when it comes to meshing).
I'll look at replacing the laurel wreath at some point, but not really sure which way is the best way to go yet.
I've also done a quick sketch without the face, to see what people think.

Personally, I like it better without the face! Simple, and pretty damn effective.
This is great work man, keep it up!

Maybe you could add the face to the crown on the pommel. Either way a really good design and I look forward to the outcome!

IMO, the face you have doesn't look very Maker-ish, the greek influence is a little strong. If you threw a helmet on it and tweaked the facial structure to have heavier features like a dwarf I think it would fit the Maker theme better.

I'm gonna go down the 'angelic' route now, seems to fit well with all the swirlies and winged cuff. And if the head stays, the wreath won't, and the curls will be more jagged, so hopefully less greek.
Di$array: That is a top notch idea mate! I'll have to be savvy with the beard shape and reduce the detail, but it should just go down in size enough to fit on the pommel. Will give it a go in a bit.

Yep, like it without face much better. Now you can see clearly from both sides that it's a fist which made the idea so cool in the first place.

Schweet! You'll have to excuse the roughness of the concept, but wanted to whack this up here now, while I have a chance, then tart it up at a later date.

This looks really fun! Depending on how you sculpt this I think you could lean it a bit more towards the DS2 style. Regardless great designs period. Can't wait for the progress!
