Hi everyone,

I can't figure out how to make sharp edges with Turbosmooth, like in
this example.

I have used supporting lines. Is it the only way to detach the upper geometry
in order to have a straight edge?

Here is the desired result (from another area of the model)

Use the crease option (change to 0.0 or 1.0) on edge that u want to make "hard" in editable poly

Wow first time that I can suggest something that I know of .....

You need to set the crease in the edges properties , 0 or 1 makes the difference or the numbers in between for the midway results ... If not wrong 1 should result in no smoothing at all , while 0 total smooth ....

I don't see Crease fields in Max 2012 when editing edges ... is it part of a subscription pack or something?

Oh, OK, if you have the original "Box" modifier in the stack you don't get those options. If you collapse it totally into an Editable Poly, they appear. Thanks!

Your retaining edges weren't set up tight enough to fix the part where it connects to the top.

I might be on my own here, but I generally don't like to use the crease options for smoothing, as even the smallest amount tends to create a hard pinch that makes an edge look hard. I find it easier to just play with retaining edges to get the nice crisp edges without the pinch.

Although, in your image I don't really see that pinch I'm referring to...so maybe you are ok.
