Is there not an irc chatroom or teamspeak server that all like minded polycounters hang around at?

We like our irc dark. We don't talk much about art there.
A lot of us are PCers, but there are plenty that are not.

but we're all grumpy, jaded old men in there. We kick and ban people left and right, and when art talk happens, we change the subject by posting pictures of tits.

That's pretty much how irc channels have always been. You have to spend a lot of time(without breaks) in order to be accepted as "one of the guys" in most of them. I think most of the people in #model_design are pretty open to new people though as opposed to many other channels I've been going to over the years...
In a way it makes sense though, the guys there are sitting and talking about stuff that happen in their everyday lives(sometimes perhaps a bit of mildly private stuff) just like a normal group of friends would and then some newbie pops in and wants to talk about something different or trying to get into the conversation(which only makes it awkward when none of the other people knows this person).
They would always posted porn links when they knew I was on at work...
