Highschool Basketball Court. Apocalyptic molten solar flare earthquake. I haven't entered a polycount competition before, figured I should just take a shot

I'll try and post up a short video of me explaining my process so far every two days rather than blabbering in text.

Ta!

Can a mod rename it to [STADIUM] Basketball, myles

So I was supposed to get both floor textures done today, but didn't get the charred version of the wood flooring - ah well, its more of a material jobbey. The mesh the wood on is just a test mesh so I could try it ingame, placement isnt at all like it will be

I'll be coming back to this - there's a seam in the spec, the colours need balancing with the scene and I want to add a reflection. Oh its at 512x here.

Nice work, but I think the wood on a basketball court tends to run length-wise. That might be part of what's throwing off the placement for you...

Yeah thanks Matt, can't believe I didn't notice that in my ref.

Tiles like a mother fucker, I also need to work on the blending (both material and colour changes in both). I'm also going to do something to the uvs for the burnt wood so the panels look separate. I feel lazy doing it this way, but I'll explain why in my vid on boxing day

Looking good so far! Once you have the charred wood blended in with the regular wood this will look super sexy. Can't wait to see more!

No video tonight, I ended up working on a way to crate pillars with suitable facets without a dedicated normal map. Quick practical test (Don't worry, I'll be creating the real floor and pillars tomorrow!)

I didn't have time to record a video, so I'll do one tomorrow, promise!

Sorry for the cropped shot, lots of unfinished stuff in the background throwing stuff off.

Thanks Brandoom! I've been playing a little with some post processing this evening, still haven't put a video together so I did this for those interested - theres nothing special in my workflow, but the scale/ pixel density might interested some.

Took yesterday off to just relax, actually really helped! Got lots of fresh ideas for how I can improve this if I have time Today I was supposed to get the seat stands done - but as per, I only managed to get the seats done..

Textures quite noisy, but I didn't want any large/ distracting shapes as it uses lots of repeating textures, I can come back to this if needs be. Uses a 512x256.

Thanks guys! I'm crunching to get this done on time, I should have something passable by tomorrow night - but I want to push this as far as I can - especially as I have some extra polys/ texture space to throw around.
I've just finished working on all the materials for the spectator stands, thought I'd also post my texture sheet so far (half size). You'll notice i keep my diffuse quite clean and simple - most of the detail goes into the spec and normal.

Thanks man. This is getting close to being too noisy and loosing focus. I'll be fixing that with some larger shapes, silhouettes to frame the sides, some smoke around the seating. I'll be adding a large central element tomorrow to bring the interest back to the playing area.
Hit 60k now, just as well everything left to do is quite lowpoly

Thanks guys - I reduced the stencil outline quite a bit. So started working on stuff to start getting the theme/ composition working better. Stuff left to do - floor markings, basketball hoop, barbed fencing, banners, city silhouettes and particles - I CAN DOO IT

Here I've added the scoreboard, rebar, concrete around court & added slight tilt to the different floor pieces.

I think the white screens on the top and bottom of the scoreboard are too bright, thoughts?

Looking good. Drop in some more visible structures in the background.

Also you might want to sort on a gradient for the sky or something more detailed.

The lighting is a bit spotty on the court. It doesn't seem like every light pool has a light that is creating the pools.

What's the scoreboard hanging on?

All in all though you're killing this man. Really hope to see you finish this. GO GO GO!
