I really like where this character is going, especially the horns on the back of his elbows. I think it would be cool if maybe you continued with that kind of theme, like on his knees, or something.
I feel like his calves to his feet need a little something but I'm not sure what...Sorry D:

I think he could do well with a bigger face. That and I also like that suggestion of adding spikes of some sort coming out of the knees/legs.
As for the pads, I think giving them the thick older leather look like older hockey pads could work really well.
Kinda like the legpads on the far right. But the leather strads look could be used for the shoulder pads or anything else too.

I was thinking pretty basic knee pad that goes from the knees down to the lower portion of the leg and spikes are on the knee pad. Since the legs are not mutated.
And instead of making shoulder pads and chest gear I was thinking of just making a jersey or if we are going with the pads and all, give him a flag to represent his team.
