Here is a cool interview with Polycount's own Gauss -- including appropriate shout-outs:

Really good read (also really good to see wtf gauss is up to). I gotta say, I agree with his view about the "shoot the guard on the right = failure" problem with game design.
Currently out of the game industry, trying to find my way back...

Always interesting to hear what's rattling around in that Gauss brain. I found it really difficult to follow the conversation though. If RPS wants to have conversational style interviews, I'd rather them just do an audio or video interview. I'm not a big fan of reading the hyphens and broken sentences and other idiosyncrasies that are part of a natural conversation. It makes for a jarring reading process IMO.

Did you mention penis tanks? Yes? Good. Great interview then.

90% of game interviews are just e-mail blasts. I transcribed it to be conversational on purpose. I think a lot of people don't realize that this is how game design / level design gets done -- you just talk about it, then make it and test it. There's no magic involved.

thanks everybody! and thanks for ninjas for posting it.
and this is worth it if only to get more people to realize that radiatoryang has been a looooong time lurker on polycount, too.
he's a miracle worker, seeing as how he condensed an hour and a half of me blathering at him into an interview that makes me seem like a smart, coherent dude

Good to see some frank answers and pointing out parts that didn't work, nice interview. Mention of the penis tank really holds the attention of the reader.
Also couldn't help but think I recognized Rob's name, could be because we were on the same mod team years ago hehe.
