Hey guys,
I am building a lowpoly scene for an iphone game and are having some problems to make it look right in the Maya viewport. I have painted the models with vertex colors and this make things a little troublesome becouse the only way i can see the vertex colors in Maya is by using high quality shading mode wich doesnt look at all like it will in the game. This game will be built using Unity. What i want to achive in Maya is a lightning condition that looks like a ingame llightning say World of wacraft + vertex lightning. The problem is that if i use no lights the basic shading dissapears, if i use standard light Maya wont show the vertex lightning ( i am using modulate x2 as layer blending option, And if i use advance lightning the shading looks strange. I have never installed a shader in my life and need help with tips here. Also i wonder if there is a setting in the material options that can make the texture emit its own colors (just being brighter but dont get washed out) in Blender i think its called emit.
Thanks alot.

Apart from that you can simply bake lighting into the vertex colors.
At least I didn't see any HLSL vertex lighting shader around the community. I'm sure it's not that complicate to do it by modulate 2x.
Hi man, I am not the one who are using unity i am afraid. Also i really want to learn to do vertex ligtning in Maya becouse i might need it for future assignments. But thanks alot man.
Thanks alot for the link. I understand that this is a very good option if you want to bake vertex ligthtning. I dont really see how this solves my problem or am i missing something ?
I sort of want direct visual feedback in the viewport while i am changing the vertex color for total control.
thanks !
Thanks Malcolm. I am not baking thought. I am just doing everything by hand. Every modes has its flaws i am sorry to say ;( , thanks anyway man !
Ahh i see, well i doesnt work anyway. That setting is there by default (at least for me) and it still doesnt solve the problem i was trying to get solved in the first place (vertex lightning applied + shading) also the modulate x 2 mode doesnt work at all in this mode. Thanks alot anyway man !
ohh and i created a tread for this:
