Hello PolyCount, this is my first thread here in which i want to show some work in progress of my current project in UDK. Crits and opinions are welcome !!!

I am creating a scene of some cliffs and mountain range with some sort of castle/ruins (haven't decided yet) on one of those cliffs with the sun setting down.
I want to go for a "paint-ery" look for it.
I laid out the terrain and currently working on the sky dome
Here are some WIP's, as stated above please throw out any crits and comments:

Love those clouds will be watching this, Only crit would be maybe to put a little more love in those cliffs to make them match up with the quality of the clouds maybe try some vertex painting if your using udk for this. Great stuff keep er up!

I like your sky, but some fog's needed there to fade in out the landscape.

yes a lot of tweaking must be done, not only with the fog.
I was thinking of manually modelling the mountains in the distance, anyone could list some pros and cons about this?
Thanks!

make those tiles smaller. And what I mean by that make give them higher tiling. They are bit to big, at least for me.
Otherwise keep it up. I always fall in love with deserts ;o.

your cliffs looking good and and try to go with more
details on the cliffs ' smaller details ". use zbrush and sclupt a details layer and use udk materials to make it look better on your cliffs
and like the guys say use vertex blending is very Important to break the tiling . and for the ground one . try to get this is very helpful

I agree, but if you want to keep them at that size I would suggest using parrallax mapping to give them some depth. they look too big to be as flat as they are.

I really like those clouds..the composition on your last image looks nice.

Got any pointers for painting clouds like that?

Thanks for your comments!
As for the clouds, i used Paint tool SAI and the mouse to paint them, i use it when i have to hand paint something. the UI doesn't stand in your way at all, it gives a lot of freedom. But Photoshop works just as fine too.
When painting the clouds i just painted the basic "body" of the cloud with a slightly darker value than the sky and then used a light gray (almost white) and started painting wrinkles and "m" -like shapes on the highlights and blur brush to on the opposite side of the light source.I painted the clouds in grayscale and added some color after with some blending modes.
