Trying to get some more C&C without flooding waywo any more than I have.
So for Comicon this year the theme is an Alternate Universe version of a comic character (I'm not entire sure how this is any different than all the previous years but whatev) so I'm making Conan post-apoc/sci-fi style; which basically means a little Mad max, a little Star Wars (not too far from the Force Unleashed Secret Apprentice outfits. I'm trying to keep the overall look familiar, so he's got a couple shoulder straps, bits of arlight armour, some dangly cloth bits and so-on. Anyway enough with the rambling, here's some art type stuff:

I don't really have any crits, the only thing is that I don't really think that Conan will be awesome as a librarian :P
Just keep going, maybe do some paint-over concepts to show us where you're taking this Good work so far! Can't wait to see more!

To choose your literature, to hear it read before you, to have the prose pronounced by its writers.

chrisradsby: you need to watch Bart's link there ;) I;ve been going off reference more than any kind of concept sheet but here's about 10% of that, (most of which should be recognizable
Torch: thanks man
Tenchi: if you can be more specific I might be able to do something about it
Snader: Exactly
Bart: damn, I completely forgot about that movie, thatès fucking awesome man
Mask_Salesman: Thatès aweoms man, thatnks for taking the time. will work on those
woke up at 4am yesterday with a fever and spent most of the day in bed with netflix thereby loosing a rare ÈfullÈ day to work on him, and today isn't looking much better, hereès (FUCK YOU Win 7 keyboard!!!!!) a small update:

this isn't an update so much as a "I really like these material settings" post. I'm using the z7 matcap from the zBrush central library with wax preview

just gonna sneak in a little update here, between freelance gigs and a studio job so brief it may have been a dream I really haven't gotten anywhere as much done on this as I should. Not too mention concept-modeling was completely counter-productive.
So I've decided to take what little time I have and just go classic barbarian. The fur under the belts is just a test, but I'm going to try and bake it out to see if this ZBrush hair is really practical or just fancy.

I really love the definition of this guy's muscles and face, so well executed. I like where the design is headed as well, and interested to see how the fur comes out.

So are you just polypainting the high-poly right now? then more texturing after you bake it down?

Pretty much yeah. I'm painting it all in here, the same way you'd use 3D coat or something to paint a low-poly, then after I bake him I'll do some clean-up and refinement on what's here. I find it easier to set everything up on the model and just tweak in photoshop.

aspent most of the week with no comp due to faulty ram and getting an extra hard drive but I've managed to finish the highpoly here, unless there's any crits (which would be awesome fyi) then I'll start baking this bastard

Where his pecs meet his arms looks funky. Normally there would be more separation and they'd insert under his deltoids higher up. So more of a U shape for the base of the pecs rather than straight across. Then on his back you've got a similar thing going on with the teres major/minor - those don't run into the arm that way.
The lower section where his biceps run into his forearms also looks odd coming to that sharp edge/point.
To illustrate I was trying to find some better shots of arnold but here's a turnaround that might help http://www.health-today.org/wp-conte...011/10/as8.jpg
or just any standing pic of a bodybuilder will work as well http://www.dumbbellsweights.com/wp-c...ay-cutler1.jpg
And what's up with those boots? Are you going to break up the fur bits more as well? Like have more overlapping onto the boots or cloth? or are you planning on doing that with alpha planes?
Smooth out those creases in his pants too, they look a bit blobby.
How does that one hanging belt with the metal studs connect to anything? Wouldn't those belts pull on the fur stuff beneath them so the fur wasn't quite so symmetrical and flat across? and is the fur all one piece? Is it wrapped around him and folded over itself? or sown up so that it creates a cylinder around his mid section?
I think it's coming along really nicely but I think if you push it just that little extra bit it'll turn from a nice portfolio piece into an awesome portfolio piece.
p.s. Please finish scifi conan as well

Only thing I got is that the cloth from his waist looks really valuable. It clashes with the leather and fur on the rest of him. I think that tweaking the colors so that it's not crimson+gold might help.

Looks to me like his pec is going over his bicep - as it should be - but the bicep isn't going far enough back into his arm pit. Here's some ref.
