Strange smooth edge shading in maya

these edges smooth really weird and i don't know why. how can i avoid this?

    There's a few possible issues. for one, it looks like you have an inconsistent chamfer between the upper and lower panels, which is definitely causing some small trouble. Second, you appear to be smoothing into the chamfer, which is going to cause issues around 90-degree bends - arrange your smoothing groups only along close planes when you see stuff like this. Lastly, there's a small chance that your door faces are no longer planar - select them and flatten to the appropriate axis.
