created Steam Pug (Professor HerpaDerpalus.)
on 07-24-2011 11:04 PM
Hey All, So Ive been working on this on and off lately. Ive been doing so much environment work and Hardsurface stuff these last few years that I really havent done much organic stuff asside from the occasional ruin/Tree.
So I found this funny concept online (no idea who drew it , was in a random forum thread) And I decided it would be fun to make...so PROPS to the original artist..
I of course decided to amp up the design a bit more as well so it could be a full functioning device.
Well enough talk lets get to it.
The idea:
Steam Punk Pug who flys around the world in his propetial floating device powered by his little legs and pug farts :p
Concept
HighPoly
LowPoly Bakes_Goggles...so far

This little dog has character!
Looking forward to the end-result.
I find the goggle's fitting on the dog's head a bit off.
The glasses itself are tight to the dog's face, but the headband seems too loose. Maybe the headband should be tighter around the back of it's head?

Was going to say this but found it already posted. So, seconded. Need those goggles to go more in the direction of the concept.

so much win. Never before has a dogs butthole been created so nicely in any sort of artistic medium.

I said when I came in here, "If I don't see a dogs but-hole in here, I'm never coming back".
You just saved your thread.

As told to me by a old creative director I worked for "its the details that make things shine"
There's to much Dick on polycount lately...needs more buttholes. lol.
Anyway, a late night update with updated materials and lighting placement and textures.Anyone have any suggestions to make furry bits pop more in spec/gloss? I'll post flats if people are interested?

nice, tho i personaly like it more in the concept where he's just strapped in and its not cluttered up with controls an such.

Original artist is Robin Latkovich,FYI. http://robinlatkovich.com/
I agree with Rhinokey. I love the simplicity in the original concept compared to the complexity of the controls you added.

I also had the original design but when I was working on it I had a few people tell me that the design does not make sense there was nothing holding him in place...then someone mentioned how did he control it..pug farts? (hince the butthole) So I figured to add a bit of my own flare to it :p
I contacted the artist who drew that so thanks for that heads up!

Blimp is sitting on 5420 tri's, Pug sits at 2870 tri's and the goggles sit at 716 tri's
All together adding up to 9006 tri's , 1k less then I was expecting this to be!
Anywho here's the bakes so far and AO , nothing yet as far as textures go.

NICE!
i'm a bit late to the party, but
i think the fins had much more interesting shapes in the concept. got them rakish angles
and your straps are floating around the balloon.

Haha this is awesome. One thing that i could say is that the little pug is looking a lil to stiff, maybe if you just make his bottom half bend down wards a bit so it looks like he is actually being carried by the device.
