created Vampire WIP
on 06-27-2011 04:15 AM
Hi all, this is my first time posting on this site, I have been hanging around for a bit and it seems like a good community so I thought I would post up a wip thread of a character that I am working on at the moment. The concept was done by one of the artists at work and I have decided to create it in 3D.
I am around 50% into it, there are some points that I am going to change, such as the feet and hands. I will be adding an extra finger to the hands and the feet will be less like a velociraptor. He will also have hair which I still need to include as well as more armour.
Anyway here it is. Comments & Crits welcome

Ok I have been going a bit slow on this one so a small update. I managed to bake out the normals for the body. I need to clean up a few areas though.

Later on when you start finalizing your model, you can use an alpha channel on your texture map on your loincloth instead of using geometry to create holes and cut cloth.
Can't really say too much, but It's looking good so far.

Nice. I really like the overall design you have going.
I'd like to see some more flesh in the winglets so he could move his arms. ;)

This is looking neat.
I really like the webbed wing deal. As Vailias said, he doesn't look like he could raise his arms right now.

very cool model, really liking this creature - kind of an anthropomorphic gargoyle.
As alluded to previously - the wings kind of stand out. Google image search "Wingsuit" to see how the structure would look if its purpose was flight/glide assist.
Not sure how much you are willing to deviate from the concept, (concept art would also be cool to see if possible) but unless you're going for a vestigial style I don't think that flap coming from the bicep to the pecs would really do anything but create drag. It would seem more practical if it went up more into the neck.
I know its a WIP but the level of detail on the wings doesnt seem to match the rest of the model. It could use some veins and small bones in the same style as a bat wing because just a flap of flesh presumably wouldn't hold its rigidity.
It might have been beneficial as far as the wing structures are concerned to model this guy in a T pose although it may be a bit late at this point.
Watching this thread with bated breath regardless, great work!

this is looking ace, good stuff.
one thing that's probably intentional but threw me off was the wingflaps going into his bracelets though

Thanks for comments guys. I know there are some concerns about the webbed wings but I'm hoping that corrective blendshapes will sort that once he is rigged. It should be a challenge for me :-)
@makecg- Thanks dude :-)
@jocose- Thanks also :-)
@Illusive- I see what you mean but I have made slits in the vambraces to give the wings room, but I guess you can't see it too well at the moment.
@ae- I really like the webbed wings also, I just see him doing some really cool anims with jumping and gliding etc.

Its getting there Kav. It has a very nice silhouette.
Are you going to give him a weapon?

Yeah I plan to, just need to design it? Not sure what type of weapon it will be yet?

Looking good man. Not sure how the torso/shoulder armor is staying up though. Are you going to have straps or something holding it in place? Looking forward to seeing the weapon

I like the silhouette that the armour creates but I hate that you have to cover up the wonderful work you did on his muscles!

Awesome stuffs!
But how are you going to do straps with the torso armor? You'll need to lock it in the back and front for it to not look like it's going to fall off. And right now your awesome wing design is fucking that idea imho, and quite hard.
Personally, I would leave his upper body bare and work with textures to break it up a bit like slashes, bruises, bloodstains, etc...
Or use a single -although pretty iconic- shoulder guard.
Either way, this will rock when finished; of that I am quite sure.

Cheers for the comments guys...
@BrontoThunder - I am planning to do a few different versions with different armour sets and so on, so there will be a version with his upper body exposed.
@Maph - I definitely like your idea dude! I think I will try something along those lines. I have started to make the straps for the armour, I will post it once it is complete.
I have been working on just blocking in some colour... Just diffuse and normals at the moment. Oh and he doesn't have his eyes in this image.

I like the twist you did on the concept man ! really cool
Just have the feeling the colors are not very attractive, would go less green ...
Looking forward seeing the end result !
