Weird, I'm getting super bad lag still. I'll type something and 3-4 minutes later it'll finally show up in chat and everybody sees it. I'm pretty sure it's not my connection because it's decently fast, I'm on the west coast.
I'm using the standalone version of minecraft too, not browser.

Ok, I have yet more progress to report... another server. this one is running on Linux and out of the jar file with no head on it. this is as efficient as it gets. I'll leave the Windows box up for now as well... you guys can compare and contrast if you'd like.

I played on a server with a friend the other day, and there were a load of great mods.
A good one was an RPG mod where the more you mined fished swung your sword etc, the better you get, and you get a chance of procs, like you can be mining coal , and you have a chance to find some diamond or iron too.
Also a shop mod , where you have a bank ballance, and you can sell stuff like red stone , and buy wood or gold or whatever you can afford - sortof makes use for those materials you dont need.
There was also a really anoying mod (or i thought) that was too hand holding, that stopped creepers destroying anything and just damaging instead.
Generally, any mod that expands the game is great in my opinion, but some stuff can be restrictive, ruining some part of the game for someone.
a mod that detects what blocks were placed where or who destroyed what would solve most griefing problems, - along with a white list these are the only restrictive elements i would like to see.
not my server i know , just me 2p

Very cool I started but am scared shitless because I didn't locate any coal yet XD. I actually had to clean up my monitor so as to see something in those dark newly carved out hallways.
Thanks .

New server looks class and runs great. The terrain beside spawn is Epic.
I'm confused now though. Don't know which server to commit to. Will wait and see which one is most popular.

I've shut down the windows server. I've backed up the entire server install and dumped it on my backup server. I'll pick through it when I can and get a zip of that world up for anyone that wants a copy.

I'm not sure what to do with the original world we had up. Would you guys want a copy of it, do you want it live on a server? Most folks seemed to want us to wipe it, so my thoughts is that i'll stick it up as a file you guys can download.

Lol just played a bit on the server, way more fun than just on my own.
I'd like to see a mod that gives you an option to change your spawn point to your house.
You see I'm a bit of a noob at minecraft and when I die (and I die way to often >.>), I always forget how to find my house back D:
Other than that everything worked fine

sleeping sets your spawn point.. so you spawn at the last bed you slept in
