SOE Austin had a job fair today for the SOE devs that were laid off from the Austin studio last week. They invited all the local studios into the office today to meet and interview the ex-employees. Zygna, Vigil/THQ, Spacetime Studios were some of the dozen or so companies to take up the offer. The place was absolutely packed with people. The mood was pretty upbeat and I'm sure some folks will have jobs before the week is finished.

I had never heard or seen a company actually do this in the games industry and wanted to share. I think the management in the Austin studio deserves some credit for trying to take care of their people even as they are having to show them the door.

And yes, I still do work there. This sort of act is why I trust the couple people in management there that are really trying to make this a sane place to work and even have a career. It isn't easy, but i do believe they are really trying.

cheers all

That's really cool. One of the last things I'd expect a company like that to do. But I suppose it's not only the right thing to do, it's also a good way to maintain a good reputation as an employer.

That's very nice to hear, r13. I wish more companies were like that, it would make one feel generally safer.
