Hello to you talanted people here at Polycount.

First thread here so make me feel right at home please

I aim to recreate Zack Fair in a more Gears of War inspiered universe. Add some Salaryman attitude and cartoonify it a tad.

This will also be my very first completed high poly sculpting project with low poly cages textures and all that jazz so I am stoked to get this show on the road.

really cool concepts! love the final guy, seems really solid! I'd suggest keeping some blue on him to make sure you can tell the new one is the same character, otherwise it gets hard to tell w/ the orange shoulder pad (although badass, redefines him a little).

@Fearian Actually in another thread (The Q and A one I believe) they said upon reviewing Dissidia's gameplay or something that it doesn't count for some odd reason. You'll have to take that up with the admins/mods. However Ehrgeiz is totally a fighter. Iwas totally thinking of doing Yoyo.

So here is the update. Just a basic blockin to see where I want to take this. I will tweak the proportions quite a bit, more toward Brink I shoud think. I just discovered http://ldaustinart.blogspot.com/, check out her work, it is brilliant.

I have a shitload of stuff to fix now and I think another set of concepts based off of this is due

Sorry for the noob question, but did you just export an animation out of max via tga sequence or something to make the turn table?

hey man, I just learned it today so I am a noob as well.

I used playblast to .iff from maya. Opened the render in (fcheck?) and saved that animation from there to png sequence. Then I imported the files to Photoshop and saved for web and devices.

I hope you can translate that to Max. Sorry if not. Take care

Hey, that looks pretty awesome. You can defiantly tell it's Zack which is great and yet you really managed to implement your own style. I also hate to ask but where did you learn to model hair? Do you make each strand individually? I am currently trying to learn how to do game character hair and have not been so successful as of now.

I am sorry to say that I do not know how to make hair as of yet. This is just a blockout to get a feeling for the general shape of things. I just created a plane, shaped it into something I would want, duplicated that strand and reshaped it into a first row. Then I just grouped the row and duplicated that several times and placed the new ones into desiered position. Sorry that I can not be of more help. I am almost a virgin comming into this.

Nice stuff! But from a rigging perspective I would make the fingers longer to really have the ability to fold the hand into a nice fist. I'm afraid as it is now it'll look a lil' derpy.

This is some great stuff. I think the Polycount Wiki also has some good information on doing hair as well.

I really like the incorporation of the Mako as being a drug and showing it's effects on him; should make him look even more badass once you finish. Maybe some cool effects could be added; maybe he's carrying glowing vials of the stuff?

I'm really liking the face and new style you have going on. Looks very solid. The concept of using mako as a drug is also pretty neat in the design. I'm anticipating how its going to look when brought to 3D. Also, thank you buckstar, azuryon and base for your notes about hair sculpting.

SO this update is far overdue. A first sculpting pass on Zacks face and body. Not much of the body will be seen when putting all of the gear on him but I need the practice in all areas concerning this. I've changed the proportions quite a lot. More towards Brink than GoW but it find it more appealing and appropriate I guess. It is amazing how much you itterate while working in 3d, very good lesson to learn as a concept artist ^^

I have been polishing stuff a bit further, creating some assymetric details here and there to liven things up. I am really enjoying myself here so I am taking my time.
I am working on the arms now and when they are done I'll move onto the character gear, hard surface modeling and stuff.

You guys are pumping out some seriously cute shit here, I am stoked to be a part of this. Keep up the splendid work!

He does want to kiss you. In a very erotic way, so wont fix it ^^ I might tweak some smaller details to it but the lips is one of my favorite parts on this, it adds a little humor :poly142: Might tune it down a small tad though. I just like to venture into the areas few men dares enter
