I've kind of screwed myself over. I need to come up with a new level by monday using assets that are completely new. I know it's doable, but I'm not even sure what to make a level of. I'm kind of stumped trying to think about the layout, modular assets, and even a area to start at.
And ideas to push me in the right direction?

*edit* I accidentally typed money instead of Monday, but I got a good idea out of it.

prety good idea. i can easily change textures to add some variation.
i also just bought that modular tutorial they have on the front page. it's probably stuff that i already know, but i'm desperate at this point.

holy shit, that's excellent. the hardest part for me would probably be the lighting, (i prefer outdoor setting)
but everything else seems doable.

lol, touche, but I'm pretty sure that some of the electronic stuff won't work that well in outside weather.

also, another thing to consider is that one of the guys who's grading this has no imagination. if he sees something that exists outsides the bounds of realistic logic, he takes issue with it and believes that every gamer in the world will also question the logic of the design. mind you, one of the most recognizable characters in our industry is a man that grows twice his size by eating mushroom >_>
it sucks, but my creativity is stifled by this. otherwise i would have done a Tron themed casino (just came from watching the movie in 2d. i might actually go back and watch it in 3d.)

that's where you're wrong, SMB is pretty realistic, he gets twice as high when eating a mushroom, think about it...

ahh, now it makes perfect sense. but that doesn't explain Yoshi, a mail reptile that can lay eggs.
Anywhoo, I've been gathering some refernces and usable textures. I'm planning on making this casino as modular as possible. I have to get a few other assigments out the way, so I'll post updates when I can. thanks dudes for the ideas.

Ok, I started modelling really late last night, so I don't have too much done, but I think I should be able to model a few more pieces and assemble the rest of the level before tonight. Most of these pieces with be sharing the same UV space, and I probably won't make anything beside a diffuse map unless I have time to make a spec and normal map.
to do list:
1. Slot machine
2. Bar
3. Column
4. Balcony
5. Door
6. Some kind of extremely simple chandelier.
anything else that I may have overlooked? I have 29 hours left to do this, so that's relatively enough time for suggestions :P

Well, I did as much as I was able to do. For 48 hours, I don't feel too bad about it. I just hope it was worth it.

lol, yeah. don't worry, it's not the system, it's the recorder. everything seemed smooth while i was recording, but when i watched it, it was choppy. i'm using Camstudio's uncompressed format, so that's probably why.
I would have fixed it, but i didn't have time.
