Hi guys,

I've been working on this mod for some time now as a personal project while studying at university. Now university has finished I'm tasked with finding a job. So because I'd like to feature this in my portfolio I'm going to release the beta version of my new Spectrum style DM_Deck remake for download here on Polycount.

I think I've posted DM_Spectrum here before, but for those who don't know Spectrum has been in the works for about a year and a half now in various incarnations. It managed to pick a couple of honourable mentions in phase 4 of last years Make Something Unreal competition. Since then though I've given it quite a few updates.

I've posted these before, but if you didn't see them check out these trailers to see what the mod is about:

Gameplay Trailer

and some images:

You can download it here.

I know its not perfect at the moment, the performance on DM_Deck_Spectrum is not quite right yet. I'm working on optimization. Also the setup could do with some streamlining.

If you find any bugs or glitches send me a mail or post in this thread and I'll take note and try to get a solution in place

I have a big list of things still to do, and I'll update this thread when they get done. One of the main aims is to get rid of any stock UT3 assets, so a big VFX update is in the works along with some interesting custom audio stuff.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy playing it!

very nice...

love the style...was wandering about using dynamic reflections or maybe some spec only lights that would follow the players around and conform to the colours they were standing on, just to give some slight form to the world without loosing the style

would love to see more really stylised stuff coming out of udk

Its been a while since I posted any updates to this. I've been fully focused on finding a job.

Last week I had the opportunity to prepare this new video for an interview for a junior game designer role at Crytek UK. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to show it to them, fortunately I still got the job!

Anyway, check it out: DM Deck Spectrum

If you're interested and want to download hold of for an hour or so while I compile and upload the new build. Also the new build is way more optimised than the previous, so it should run a lot smoother.

Cheers!

edit: Download is now sorted.

Re-encoded and re-uploaded the Deck Spectrum video as I noticed the quality on the last one was shockingly poor. This one should be better.

Looks amazing, love it. Tying dynamic sounds together with the visuals might be something else to consider?

Cheers CheeseOnToast. That was my original aim of the project, and why its designed as it is. I've sort of deviated slightly from my original plans to make sure the aesthetic is right before I venture into the audio. Mostly because I'd need to make a lot of sound and I don't really have the means to do it. Still, I'll get there in the end, and when I do hopefully it will be interesting.

This has already done the rounds in our little UT group via email. Now if you can change the effects on the weapons to be equally psychedelic that'd be freakin awesome.

Thanks guys.

Pior it's been too long!

I'd really like to get started on a sweet vfx package. I reckon once that is completed then I can release an sdk so people can make their own maps in the Spectrum style.

I'm so busy at the moment with the new job and relocating but I'll try and find some time to figure out where to go next with the project.

There's definitely still room for development with this concept. I tried to push the stylisation a bit more with Deck Spectrum with a few little set-piece areas like the piano and light tunnel. I'm excited myself to see where this project goes.

Maybe I could be tempted to remake it in UDK so it's more accessible, because I'm not sure how many people are still playing UT3.

Anyhow, eyes peeled for new updates to this!
