Hey all I modeled this using Maya 2009, it's a steampunk mech. I want to know what you all think before I start to add texture to this. As you can see I have not smoothed it out yet for viewing purposes. The overall finished version will be smoothed and textured. Please let me know what you think. Thanks

I really like the style of the mech. Steam punk stuff is always great to see. The only suggestion it that I have is to push the steam punkness of it a little more. (Bolts, exhaust, cables, etc) I know a lot may come out in the texturing but just a small suggestions. Great start. Cant wait to see it textured

Gotta agree with JarlanPerez. Right now it could go either way, and looks a bit too "standard Walking Tank" type mecha. Really push the Steampunk!

This is pretty cool... I like your design so far, especially the cockpit area. My only comment is that the feet could use a bit of work imo. Im just trying to picture how it would walk. I think going with something more like a huge mechanical boot would still fit the style and make it look a bit more mobile. Cool stuffs tho!

I like the concept, and the cockpit looks great, but I think the feet look way too awkward. They look like they are more designed for grabbing, not walking. I think that it might look good with chicken legs, as in reversing the knee joint. I think if you could make those changes it would flesh into quite a nice looking mech.

Thank you all for your comments, I adding some hydraulics to it and some more bolts aswell. Can you please explain in a little more detail how the feet look awkward? I was trying to go with feet which can support it's mass but yet not get tipped to the side so easily. I'm not quite sure what you mean by a huge mechanical boot either.

no prob - 'boot' is kinda vague :P IMO forward knees on machines need to have somewhat humaniod feet so it doesnt seem out of place... With a chicken leg design big feet seem to fit better (again, just my personal opinion). The best example I can find for what I was thinking of would be the Summoner Mech from the Battletech universe. It had forward knees, and huge somewhat humanish feet. I would try and go with something like this for the mechanical layout, but obviously put your own style to the components. Basically just think of how you could break your own feet down into individual moving parts, then just exadderate the hell out of them.

With it being steampunk instead of having the 3 "toes" coming out, maybe have a Giant Cog or some kind of rolling steam wheel.
The biggest thing I've noticed from looking at steam punk is efficiency. It has non.
If you think you can make it work using 1 piston, why not use 7 gears, 3 cables, a network of pumps and boiler. And then paint it all in grease and oil.

His legs seem a bit 'squashed'. And as for this robot being steam powered, I'm not reading it anywhere in the entire robot. I see your barrel for steam on the back, but it reads as a really futuristic model. As of right now I feel this is not a steampunk mech. If you hack off the steambackpack it has nothing steam about it. Steampunk has a very specific aesthetic and you're not capturing it.

When i think of steam robots, I think of something like this:
