Class: Demoman
Theme: WAR! Reparations
------------------------------------------------
Well, seeing as there are more than a few threads with actual models and textures, I figured I would get some concept art going
I am attempting to create items for the Demoman with the theme "WAR Reparations!" Since the Demo lost the war to the Solider he has had a chip on his shoulder, and I suppose that is reason (or flimsy pretext) enough for him to want to get weapons similar to what the solider received previously.
1. Primary weapon since the demoman currently only has one, yet the soldier got his own alternate primary! (concept is below).
2. Secondary boots that have some kind of effect, like the gunboats, and would sub for the targe
3. A misc medal since the solider got a secret medal limited to a certain number of players.
The profile is meant to look like a cannon, but it is a two barrel breach-loaded grenade launcher
Need to finish up the concept on the other two

Next two items' concept art:
A workman boot with an over-sized sole and metal pieces strapped on. The name "Clodhopper" came to mind...
A medal incorporating a few of the demoman's weapons and the (team colored) Scottish flag pattern

Finally was able to start modeling the primary weapon today... and a little ways through it seemed too similar to the default one. So I made it more of an "improvised cannon" but still with two barrels. The handspike on the side is to fill in some empty space if it's not in profile, especially in first person. The other side will have a cleaning ramrod. The next step is adding more parts, roughing up the stock and making the connections between pieces.

Hm, maybe you could make the Grenade launcher have some sort of military aesthetic with this theme.
I think the themes work better when they have a visual element rather than just an idealogical one.

Good thought, Mr. Hobbes, I backtracked a little to my original concept, but still kept some cannon components. The straps, trigger guard, and hand rest are cleaned up to make it look more military. I'll be fiddling with the hand rest and latches for a while since I'm still not quite happy with them, but almost there with the model...

Holy hot damn that looks nice. I don't really like those things on the side of the grenade launcher, though, it looks odd.

I just registered to tell you, that the Targe replaces the Sticky Launcher, which is in almost any occasions the only weapon you can do jumps with (except for the Nade-Jump which is inefficient and very slow-paced). The Targe itself let's you charge, so it gives you a bit of the speed back you lose by not being able to sticky-jump.
So reconsider replacing the Sticky-Launcher/Targe with something that's similar to the Gunboats - as you wouldn't need them without having a Sticky-Launcher and would lose any accelerating ability.

On the right side it's a barrel cleaner, on the left he called it a "handspike" earlier.

That's neat. I don't think a lot of folks will get it, but it is neat.

It'll look more like something to clean cannonades with in the texture. I really like it. REALLY! So, how about this for a canon name - the Highlander's Last Resort?
This would be based on the Latin phrase "Ultima Ratio" - The last resort. Short form for the metaphor "The Last Resort of Kings and Common Men" referring to the act of declaring war. Louis XIV of France had Ultima Ratio Regum ("last argument of kings") engraved on the cannons of his armies."
Here is a picture of the latin engraved on one of the King's canons -

It does resize for me but it stills slows down my browser a lot.

It loads at full size each time and then resizes.
Plus, it's leeching a really huge image without hosting it elsewhere. Dirty pool, old man.
You could easily just link it instead of posting it as an image.
