No offense but... if you think it's hard to come up with weapons and a good theme for Scout, why don't you try to come up with it for another class?
I think Demo needs some more lovin' for example :O

These all sound like really cool ideas. I like the bat with nails, but make sure it isn't easily confused with the Pain Train.

I like the Starbonk, thats some great photoshop. I also had a bat with nails idea but i dont play as scout much so I decided to leave it to others. I think you can distinguish it from Swizzles Pain Train if you keep the Bats original from mostly and make the nails small. As for the Stun gun...I dont see that as a Scouts weapon. He seems to prefer improvised weaponry

I also don't like the Stun gun.
From what I understand it is a weapon you have to be at melee range to stun people with, and at melee range you're better off trying to kill them with the Scattergun/Fan rather than wasting time trying to stun them.

Currently getting clarity on this theme thing because everything I posted above are legitimate model swaps and attribute changes. There are no custom animations and they could be popped in quickly.
Simski- do you have a thread so I can see how your objects revolve around a current theme? So if I wanted to go space theme I'd need a phaser pistol(animation change), a lightsaber, and a boba fett helmet? I can hardly see them putting these in game. I'll do my best though to modify what I have to bring together a cohesive theme.
Swizzle- thanks! I'll do what i can to make sure that it isnt confused. I had the bat with nails idea before the pain train was out....should have got to it first, lol. I will have to work the texture to make it look different.
Enderstaley- Yeah, maybe I should rethink the stun gun....maybe I should change it into a taser, zapping for 2-3 seconds might be worth it.

Spetch by theme I think it means like something connecting all 3 items together, such as my theme is baseball (Its over used but very fitting for scout) and with the whole stungun taser thing, its 1950's so were those even invented? and it doesn't really fit scout's personality, love the bat idea tho, maybe go with a thuggish theme to go along with it, liked most of the ideas keep up the work

I have no thread.
I feel shameful to admit that I have no talent as a modeler yet, and I currently just like to give advice on the visual aspect of people's content.
When we mean it should follow a theme, we mean that they should make sense on Scout. They should fit TF2's 50's theme, they should fit Scout's background and personality, they should fit his role.
If you read what I said in the Notorious Pyro thread, ignore that... I realize now that I let myself get too confused by hearing other people's interpretations of the rules :S

Alright after much thought I've narrowed down my items.
My theme is- " Finish the Job!"
Items-
Mann Co Milk- Gets you moooovin!
The Short Fielder- (Pepper-box pistol) Shoot em in the back!
The Nail Biter- (Bat with nails) Smack em in the front!
Just modeled manco milk below. The liquid is very similar to that of the Jarate. I wanted to make sure there was no problems animating the milk. I'll lay out uvs and texture later. Gotta get the others done first.

What's the common theme between your items? They all need to fit into the same theme.

Possible theme idea: the "civilian soldier", weaponry crafted out of everyday things.

Anyway the theme doesn't seem to tie the items together very well. Pretty much anything can "finish the job". Your item ideas are good though.

Perhaps you could use the theme of a delivery boy?
Bike riders wear helmets. Delivery boys at the time (be it newspaper, milk, or w/e) would probably use a bike! (you could even use a newspaper with a bat inside to fit the theme)

Fitting items into a them isn't easy. So far I havent seen a thread with guidlines to what themes are acceptable and what are not.
Anyways, you can use the milk to power up and help you "finish the job." I'll let Valve add their own specs.
I'm changing the Pepperbox to a remington Elliot which was used from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. This will enable me to keep the Scout's hand position the same. This gun was used to take someone out fast back in the day. concept coming soon.
|
|
I keep changing the name for this one. I'm sure it will continue to change.
Like before, it's a modified Remington Elliot, 4 shot. The front will flip forward like the force of nature.
|
|
The short stop. What a great idea. Great concept art. Can't wait for more.

I like the short stop a lot, it's a nice viable replacement for the pistol and has a great name. I bet if you combined that with having natascha-like stopping power effect that would be really successful (and really frickin' annoying to pyros and charging demomen)

Love the ideas Spetch. They fit the Scout really well and they're simple, no nonsense. The milk bottle looks really good.
I like that the pistol is 4 shots. Giving the Scout another gun with a spread shot, because he totally needs another.

ParingKnife- I took your idea and ran with it. I appreciate the suggestion!
Thanks Frump. I'm still working out the details with the gun. I may end up changing it to a primary to replace the scattergun.

They look great, only one problem...
Isn't the milk and the pistol both secondaries?
According to what I understood, you have to make a unlock for each slot, meaning. At least I've seen some people be knocked off because they made more than 1 melee unlock.
If what I say is correct, I suggest you to keep the pistol. It's better than pancakes!
