created #Model_Design challenges you
on 04-12-2010 12:35 PM
You're all spoilt little bastards with your 2048 textures and fancy ass specular so the glorious residents of #Model_Design challenge you to do something different.
Two textures, a 256x256 and a 128x256, no normal maps, no glow maps, nothing but a diffuse, and for the model, Bobo's classic Bunker.
This was originally a 24 hour challenge, but we understand that so many don't remember how to work so small, so you have a week.
Here's your download, may require some effort on your part to sort out
And some inspiration from Qube, Bobo and DH

Holy shit yes! I am super busy atm but I would love to give this a try if I find time. I believe I did the "blue team" skin back in the day? ;o

Wow, I remember doing this one a loooong time ago. The result was terrible. But it was the first (only?) skin I applied to a custom Q3 character that was playable. I'll give this another try. Got nothing better to do atm.

Bring, bring... Mr Kettle?
Yes this is Kettle, who is this?
This is pot, you're black.
Ground plane, reflection, fancy specular shader... fail.
A real man would have hand painted the reflections, OR mirrored the world so two models would have touched heal to heal, instead of using some fancy nancy boy shader.
Cool challenge tho. =P

how do you know that isn't what Bobo did?
Perhaps becasue YOU are mr. fancypantsshaderman and you can spot fancy specular and raytraced reflection when you see it???

This is the reason we wanted to do this.
In this day and age, it's all about complex shaders and multiple maps. It's not just about painting anymore.
Yours is coming along great! Keep it up!

Decided to go with finishing Eddy instead, since I already had a sort of color scheme in mind for it and there are fewer questions about where to go with the choice of color and such. Also, better/more personality.
I'm probably just going to replace the image here a bunch of
times until I think there's enough change to warrant another
image reply.
HntrLuc: That's fucking great work. I love how happy he is.
willy: Great start, man, especially for your first time doing something like this.

Quick work in progress.
Don't know if I'll do the entire body but I'd like to finish the head. This brings back a lot of memories!

head is done.
Messed around a bit until I came up with a color scheme and level of detail that I felt was appropriate for the style I'm going for.
