created [SDK] - Goblin!
on 02-06-2010 08:44 AM
Hey folks,
If any of you are having a boring weekend and just wants to do something quick and fun, maybe you could try making a texture for this simple Goblin model I did recently.
Download Goblin SDK (2.5mb ZIP) here!
This ZIP file contains:
- OBJ files of the model in T-pose, and two action poses.
- TGA image of the UV wireframe.
- PSD document with an AO bake layer and the UV layer, set up and ready for painting!
The resolution I painted it at was 1024x1024, but I found it works fine even down to 256x256 so if you wanted to do some Q3-style skins, that might be fun
I might see if I can do another one myself.
Gratuitous image (click on it to download SDK):
I'm looking forward to seeing at least a few textures... don't care if anyone finishes or not, just want people to have fun

Looks awesome Mop. Really great work. I really like the skin, nice color choice.

A fine model indeed! If I could texture I would have probably gave him a more sinister, decietful, looking or something or other. Such is the nature of the stereotypical goblin.
I don't have much say in what happens though, so I'll end off with nice work man. : )

Ok, I get things started! WIP on my evil goblin version.

I asked for this earlier this afternoon, before MoP put this thread up, so I'm not actually as fast as the timestamp might suggest :P

Tully: love it
adam: Just the GameArtisans "pawn" chess piece mini-contest. I decided to do something I knew I could finish without any hassle - no sculpting, no normal-map baking or specular/exponent painting, just a simple lowpoly model with a painted texture. Couldn't be bothered concepting anything original anyway, and I always liked the Games Workshop/Warcraft look, so just went with that.
I ended up missing the deadline for the GA.org thing by a few days anyway... just going at my own pace, doing it for fun

Might take a shot at this. I've NEVER hand painted a model before so it should be a good learning experience even though it'll almost certainly end up terrible. I really need to start learning this stuff though and jumping into something like this is a great opportunity.

Thanks man! Digging the model, I think we should start to develop a section for stuff like this. Model and texture studies, quick things to help people out. But then again there is always someone that will try to steal it. Still, appreciate it!

Wow, all i can say is i have a much better appreciation for hand painted textures. This is not easy, not at all. Its the first hand painted thing I have ever tried but its not going to bad. It took way to long to even get to this point but this is fun. thank you again!
