Looking for a Max plugin which colored polygons by vertex count. Want to use it to check for non-quads on my basemesh.

2010 has a selection tool for non-quads.

Max2010 you can use graphite modeling tools (or polyboost for 2009 and lower) to select faces based on # of edges. Its under selection > By Numeric

max7 that is extreme dated, I think your only option are some maxscripts as those most likely have the deepest backward compatibility.
