Well i started this last night mainly just because i was bored. its based off of this concept. if anyone knows who its by please let me know i would like to credit them as the concept is not mine. i have changed the scale though to be even bigger. my computer is already chugging if i copy over the treads of the high poly. But i started crunching some numbers of just how low the low poly would be if do it the way i would like and well its not so low the treads alone without wheels comes out to around 36,000 tris. so one question i have is, is this even worth doing 36,000 tris is quite a bit, but because of its massive scale should i be thinking in terms of env work? Or just scrap it?

heres what i have so far. the treads on the top left are a test bake. the high poly is also un-smoothed because if i smooth it with high quality viewport rendering maya will most likely crash.

Thank you both. Well i decided to keep going but i did some low poly parts of it and because of its massive scale Im going to have to treat this like an env piece.

im not sure why it puts the white bar above everything, sorry about that in advance.
