Meh. Holidays creeping up. Starting to lose interest. Got other plans.
I guess the best option would be to stop waiting, and just make on my own time what I was hoping to make, if the guidelines would allow it. Last year's challenge was just advertising for the Infernal Engine anyway.

You ladies need to change into your patience panties. Its just a free contest for teh funz.
No matter when it starts, we'll all have the same amount of time.
|
|
And then you'll have a 2 week extension on top of that.

Just thought id post a list of links to notes and tutorials from across the web that I have collected over the last few months. You have probably seen them before but they are here just in case someone hasn't. Some are tutorials, some are hints and tips, others are just there for inspiration. I hope the authors don't mind me linking to their work.
Texturing Tuts by Daniel Vijoi (Lead Texture Artist of AMC Studio) Download a PDF from the share section at AMC Studio
Creating a Next-Gen Environment Textures
Creating a Next-Gen Enrionemtn Setting- Creating an Old Farm
Tutorials from Arron Clifford, more on his site.
Tiling Texture Variations
Tiling Textures
Hard Surface Texture Painting by Stefan Morrell
Modeling for Next-Gen Game (Useful notes on normal mapping)by João Campos Costa
http://www.3dlessons.com/tutorials/H...low-48517.html by Kaleb Aylsworth
Also Gears2 Environment Art thread by Kevin Johnstone beggars belief as well as having a some step by step's a few pages in.
I found quite a lot of tips tricks in the "How u model dem shapes?" thread.
waylon-art.com should also be your first port of call for learning UnrealEd
and of course Peris's Abandoned Colony the winner of last years Unearthly Challenge. Some great wip posts and even the map to download.
And if inspirational talks is what you want then I suggest your read Ben Mathis's " Put your money where your mouth is" As well as checking his tutorials page and portfolio of course.

Yeah..... I actually got approved to do an independent study to compete in this contest at my college. Classes started 3 weeks ago, 2 days before Unearthly was originally supposed to start. I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake I know you guys are working hard to get it going so I'll just be refreshing the page like a madman today
