im newish to the bay area (california) and wondering what game companies are in the area. Id like to find an entry level position at a local game company while I learn what role I want to fill in the game industry. working on level and environment modelling at the moment. I can do anything needed. i mean that. literally.

Damn, Greece has a whoping 3 devs.. One whose site doesn't exist, one which went overbudget on their first attempt at development and will probably close (game isn't coming out) and another one whose sole game (Darkfall) reviewed for a 2/10 on Eurogamer.

I'd probably be sad, were I not too tired to care right now.

We must be going to different Creativeheads sites, because jobs have actually been pretty slim in the area and they've hardly been entry level.

From my experience job hunting in the Bay Area has been rather.. brutal. There are very few entry level jobs and we've had a lot of layoffs in the area (LucasArts, Factor5, EA, Crystal Dynamics, etc). Last I heard many companies are having issues because they're being bombarded by applications for entry to mid level jobs.

I don't mean to be a downer, but I know quite a few people (including myself) that have been looking for work for quite a while now.

Sorry to burst your bubble but there are very few art related dev jobs here in Hawaii. There used to be a whole lot more...

Right now there's only Tetris Online which employs a few awesome 2D artists that I know/used to work with.

The only other real developer here is Avatar Reality, and the last time I chatted with them their plan was to outsource all art to asia.

Wish it was different but the sad truth is the Hawaii state government isn't interested in supporting the tech industry at this time, if only we had some Canadian/Ubisoft kinds of deals going on here...
