I like it but I'm just worry about the top part of the skull...
The face is more lower than the top of the skull.
It seems to be a guy with a mask of the spartan soldat.
But I'm sorry, I didn't foud reference picture of the head's side.

yes, and you are right sama, its just because there's some volume on his head because the hair volume is there, take a look at some 300 movie shots.

Haha that's kinda cool!!
You could certainly push it even more tho!! At the moment it reminds me a little of those oversized halloween rubber masks of politicians. Since you have the freedom of 3D ... you could go so much further!
Maybe try to think him as a character out of Disney's Mulan. See how the features could be bolder? But maybe you are going for another kind of look.
Also a good way to convey a sense of 3D caricature is to use fat 'clay hair' instead of individually painted hair bits.
Good luck!

as a prior caricature artist myself, I'd say that you could also push the likeness to the Leonidas character from 300. I can tell it's him, because I recognize the scar and the hair style, but the facial features aren't necessarily spot on with likeness. consider the shape of his nose and the already outrageous pointiness of Leo's beard in the film. I think it would work a lot better that way! :P

|
when you guys say to push more you mean push the shape (mesh) or texturing?
thx for the comments

Hey Bugo, looking cool! I made a quick paintover of what I think Sama meant about the skull.

Maybe you meant that there would be a hair mesh that would make that shape? I dunno, just looks a bit funky right now. Like his face is slightly sliding down off his skull.

take a look at this pic
it has more volume then a normal sculpt because of the hair. I might agree that i can take a bit out, but not like yours i believe, dont u guys think? Thanks for the tip Skeptical Nate.

I think he was talking more about the likeness in and of itself. You can tell, who it's supposed to be, due to the scar and hair/beard but the features eyes, nose and mouth don't say Gerard Butler. It's all about getting the T Zone down.
Hey Adam, nice to have another actual caricature person around. You part of the NCN?
One of my caricature pals, Tom Richmond(does alot with MAD) has a wealth of info on his site about nailing a caricature.

Not too sure, but wasn't his beard far pointier?

Feel free to disagree with me all you want - it wouldn't be the first time someone pointed out that my paintovers totally suck. But hey, opinions can't hurt.
Things that stood out to me in the reference image and the film:
A ton of contrast.
Outrageous amount of eye shadow... err, eye dirt.
Pointiest beard ever.

Zwebbie is going in the direction I was talking about. But about the nose, your model has an upturned kindof piggy-ish nose, whereas Butler has more of a downard hook to his nose... would be an easy fix.
Dekard - Kamans baby! Stole my soul for about 2 years here at the San Diego zoo haha!
|
|
I have to agree with Zwebbie the pointy beard approach really helps sell it, maybe even really exaggerate it since it is a caricature. can't wait to see more!

easy to fix, true, thanks for the overpaint Zwebbie, i disagree with the eyes and skin color, i dont need to make exactly as the film lighting.
