It's that time again... I'm trying to find a game.

I believe it was a freeware game, there might have even been a Linux client. It was a tile-based, turn-based 'rpg'. All the tiles and characters were a tan/parchment color. It was kind of like Gauntlet or something similar, but slow and turn based. It was themed in a western D&D style fantasy.

Any ideas?

Wow. Talk about a shot in the dark.

That's not much of an obscure game though. It's someone's port of an actual board game. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/699

dude, that board game was awesome. I used to play it all the time, it was a dumbed down version of only the dungeon part of DnD, with buildable customizable dungeons, make-your-own-missions, and an all around good time.

I loved that board game I think I still have it out in my garage. I didn't know someone translated it to the PC? I vaguely remember it being brought out on the NES or SNES or maybe it was a game really close to it...

I only got to play it once. I remember someone came out with a 'heroquest-killer' type board game a year later.

Ah Hero quest. A game with miniatures made from plastic so brittle they might as well have been made from bone china. So many snapped ankles and broken weapons.

That game was awesome - I used to play it with my mom, dad, and sister when I was a kid. My parents even got me these 2 expansion packs for it that came with even more quests... I don't remember much about them except each one added about 10 more levels. One of them I think had an Undead King sitting on a throne on the front cover, and the other one had a Gargoyle.

When I was older I bought a beefier boardgame that was a similar style... I'm pretty sure it was called WarHammer Quest. One year my family went on this trip to stay at the beach for a week, and we ended up playing WarHammer Quest every night after dinner. I was in shock that my whole family liked playing that game, even my 2 little sisters were into it.

I don't know what happened to either of the board games since then, I guess they are still in my parents house somewhere...
