created IMPORTANT: Registering to Polycount temporarily disabled.
on 10-08-2008 01:19 PM
As I am sure you've all noticed, we're being hit pretty hard at the moment by some porn spam bots. While we figure out how they're getting through our security, and what fixes we can make, we've temporarily disabled new registrations to Polycount.
We'd much rather have the spam stop while we sort it out then let this shit roll in through the cracks.
If you know of someone who'd like to register, or you are reading this with hopes of registering, email me directly - adambromell[AT]gmail.com and I will set you up with an account.
Thank you!

Have you gone through all these steps?

The one that seems to work best is asking a verification question (what's 2+4). I use phpBB and was getting porn bots for a long time until I implemented a verification question and a CAPTCHA image.

All of those are in place, yup.

I don't think these are all bots, though. Most of these are probably underpaid people. And in many cases, I fail to even see the fucking point. There was one recently where there weren't any keywords or links in the post, and even the website she gave up for her profile was just google... I seriously don't get it.

Hey, you may notice some funky shit happening in the next few hours. I'm sorting some things out with the new security.
Those of you with posts awaiting authorization, I'm checking it by the minute. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks MP for testing for me with that wonderful post.
UPDATE FOR EVERYONE:
Registration is still off, and will be until later tonight. I have a new process setup that takes a while to come in to effect (it checks every hour on the hour).
Anyway, once the switch is flipped on new Users being able to register we (rogue, bk, MoP and myself) will be authorizing the first post of all NEW user to be sure that it isn't spammed bull shit. If it is, the thread will be deleted and the user will be banned and hopefully never make it to the full view of you guys.
So ya, phew.
Thanks again. And thanks to Fred over @ GA for his help with this.

I guess PM's are disabled for the time being too? I assume this is adam's doing to circumvent the possibility of pm spamming from the bots
