I like where you are going with the light changes, way to make it spooky as hell. Definitely looking forward to seeing more.

I was gonna join up and do this but decided against it this year. I was gonna do this concept and I spent alot of time thinking about it. Did you try changing all the lighting to red its cheap but it looks pretty darn evil. And since the rules say no statues I thought that it would be cool to change alot of those statues to building and towers or something. Excited to watch the progress on this one.

it doesn't say no statues it says they cant be majorly detailed like a character.
the way i understood it is that you can't have like 2048 textures and what not on a statue. thus making it look more like a character contest then the level.

The main thing is that a character/statue cannot be the focal point of your environment, so if you want to do some statues that are just part of the environment and not the focus, that is 100% OK. There are no restrictions on specs or anything like that, but obviously using a 2048(1/4th of your budget) on something that is not the focus would be quite wasteful.

thanks Quake. that's what i figured it meant. "don't use 25% of your resources on a statue" and we wouldn't be so no worries.

I'm gunna add something to this. This is my roommate. He doesn't do 3D stuff. Loves to play games and look at the stuff i do ect. And when i was talking to him about this he wanted to give it a shot. so i gave him reading material, the Eat 3D pillar DvD, and me trying to dump my 4 years of learning on him ina some what sinsacle manner. And well in a weeks time he turned out this. Using Max, Photoshop, and zbrush all things he has never used. So props to him. and he already let me tare it apart and is trying to make the next one better.

hey, the pillar looks ok for a start, but you could add some details to the textures to make it look more finished. Some scraches / dirt / noise and some color will do.
Keep it up!
