Myself and my friend Pat (who will post in reply) are going to team up to try an entry!

We decided on concept #20

The story is essentially that this church is the entry point from the depths of hell to the living world for demons below. Fire and Brimstone, Heaven and Hell, all that demonic evil goodness. Heavily inspired by the Diablo franchise. This is the paintover we're gonna work with for now.

Real Story:

...where once there was a Heaven and Hell, now there is only Hell. Twisted by demonic worshipers a majestic church has now been turned into the gateway to the underworld. People prayed for the heavenly angels to save this hallowed ground, but Man's greed and lust for power overcame and the Church of the Apocalypse was born. An altar formed by demons was placed where humans sacrificed themselves to the God of the Underworld, their bones a welcoming symbol to the demons below.

As goodness in humans became more difficult to defeat, the demons cracked the ground underneath their temple and entered into the world above. Twisting rock and stone into forms pleasing to them. Carving runes in stone to light the path from the land of the dead to the world of the living. Running Angels back to the white gates from which they came. It is Hell's time to rule, and they will rule starting from their new home...



Just have to incorporate a little green evil in all that red! ;)

Small updates:
The story is in. (see first post)
Simple Layout set to see what kinds of modular pieces we need.

We decided we're really going to push some strong forms to bring out the evil. I'm not too good at freehand drawing on my tablet, and I don't have a scanner as of yet so some of the stronger changes will just have to wait until you see them as models!

It might look a little more cartoony, but we're hoping for a more evil look than just adding in some candles and red lights!

Also, just to get my feet wet I carved out a couple simple stone end-caps. May or may not be used.

Small update.

Some Trim piece. Going to be made of metal, to stick on to arches or pillars to help break up some of the stone areas. (edit, I think I'm gonna smooth out some of those dents, they don't seem right)

Dunno whether I'll leave the "eye bulges". It's more to just remind me to light the eyes with some glowy red.

Stepped back into max for some high poly modeling of the lower first floor archways.

Still doodling a bit on designs. I like the spike, but I'm not sure it fits here. I've got to find a way to fill in the lower part. Although I could crack it up in mudbox like stone.

Finished work on the altar for now. Gotta get moving on the rest of the stuff. I've also made 3 different candles but the candelabra still has the 3 of the same, still to change. Hope yall like.

good stuff dude! I feel like the cloth is hanging in a tad unrealistic manner, but I dont think too many people will notice in the final.
