How exactly should i do this? I did export a .dxf file from maya and Blender read it in fine, but i am guessing that i can't do that with everything. I heard some people talk about getting a maya .obj import/export plug in. Where can I find this? I google searched, and i brought up dead ins, or was just impatient to read the whole pages worth of info...

Thanks for the help

Maya has an OBJ importer/exporter built in. The original creators of Maya made the format in the first place. You need to switch it on in the plugin manager before you can use it though (look for "OBJexport.mll" in the list).

I had some problems with Blender using the default *.obj import script,- and found another one on the net that was written with pyton.
Just that you know some people had problems with it before and added another import script.

errors like,- like when the import stopped with a message like error importing. I found some plugins on Blender scripting forums, cant find the one I had back then- but something along these posts:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/show...ght=obj+import
http://blenderartists.org/forum/show...ght=obj+import
http://www.zoo-logique.org/3D.Blende...io_modif228.py

but try the default import script,- If you dont get any issues like crashing then there is no need to worry,- could be that they fixed even some stuff recently,- it´s been some month´s since I last worked with Blender.

Awsome! Thanks!

I did export a .obj of a basic messed up shape, then imported it into blender...everything worked fine, so right now i don't need to worry....however, I am going to see how it works for bigger objects before i say it works with no problems...
