created Anyone actually use the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter?
on 05-12-2007 07:01 PM
I know it's really expensive for what it is, but I may need to get one. I've heard varying reports that for playing games it's swell, but for beefy demo downloading and whatnot it goes slooooow. Anyone have a different opinion?

My roommate has one, and he experiences the above that you stated.
I rather stick with hard wire.

i have it. it's fine for games. never realized the slow downloading was it's fault though. makes sense I suppose, just never tried a comparison.

I got one of these:

You can't really find that particular model in stores, I think. It's old and they replaced with a more expensive 802.11g model. The b model works fine for me. All you have to do is hook it up to a PC to configure it for your network .

I got one of these on launch. never had any problems with it. i have quiet a slow netword so i don't notice any bottle necking. my house is also is not made a solid brick so the reception on it is really good. i have tried it in older houses which have brick walls and had problems getting it to connect.

I've got it and it's completely painless. It basically configures itself. I've never had any slowness in downloading big stuff at all. I have no idea how a wireless adapter could do something like that (unless you're talking about wireless connections in general). I think you're more likely to be limited by your internet pipe.
Anyway, it's expensive, but high quality. It's also kind of cool how it clips on the back of the unit out of the way.

I have one, never seen any slow down during big downloads, but I know other people having that problem. Two of my friends have worked it out by switching ISP's. We suspected but never proved some kind of bandwidth limiter kicking in.

I bought one of these: Logitech Wireless Extension Play Link.
It works fine for on-line play, and is a lot cheaper than the MS one.

Double-lame that the elite sku doesn't come with it either. But bleah, sorry to hear you need to use the cruel mistress called WiFi, Nitz.

yeah i've used both hard wired and wireless and never could tell the difference.
Yeah it would be nice if the elite came with it built in but i'm sure from a business stand point there was a reason not to include it.
Who knows...

Thanks everyone. I ended up getting one as the prospect of running many yards of ethernet cable from my office to the living room was not something I wanted to do.
Having done so, it seems to work just fine. Managed to get a half gig demo dl'd in a few minutes. Still overpriced by at least 50 bucks in my opinion, but works well nonetheless.

Yeah, got one. It was a little overpriced - but it worked exactly as it should. No speed problems here (most of the time!). I think any speed problems are likely due to distance from my router, or the shitty internet service. Usually I can grab stuff super fast (700 meg demos in 10 minutes or less), but the Crackdown pack took 15 minutes to get the other day (80 megs)!

Same here. The wireless network adapter is usually blistering fast. But there are times that it hangs (usually either a temp clog on my end, or the XBL service).

Got it when I got my 360, works great, the gateway it connects to is actually upstairs through a wall I'm surprised it works so good.
