Pretty crazy what they can do with shockwave these days, this easily is comparable with Unreal 1 engine games!

That is fantastic, it reminds me of that wild tangent game PS and ChicQ did all that time ago, but so much better.

That's pretty rad!
A few years ago for a school assignment I made an FPS using Shockwave, only I didn't get this bad ass with mine. Was an ass having to learn the code and do all the artwork.
Have been tempted on more than one occasion to go back and finish it.

wow the level design and texturing is horrendous, looks like a game from 1996, i know its flash, but its running directx/opengl, i'm sure they could do quite a bit more with it than this.

this is done using the papervision3D engine for flash.

Hopefully Adobe will release full 3D support for flash in the next version, you guys wouldn't believe how genius these guys are for getting that to run in the current version.

Well using Macrodmedia Director as the engine for the game is pretty limiting. The last time I used it, I had to crunch textures immensely (but I probably didn't do a good job, for I didn't really know much about colour indexing and compression or 3D for that matter). But even an untextured level would run like balls. I even tried a few methods of character movement and collision detection and this would kill performance. I didn't even get into NPCs.
But performance would also come down to PC power, so it ran worse on some machines and better on others. Though when I used it, it was 2003. Might give it a go some time soon and see how far I could push it this time.
I bet you I don't though

Oh... figured it was using Director. Might have to look into papervision3D then.

my bad, it is director, and very old. (leading me to think that it might be papervision3d)

I have also farted around with director and even bought a book to TRY and learn http://www.dadako.com/?cat=12
