I think I also read somewhere than MM ears are upposed to never be symetrical.
http://www.magicalears.com/clipart/C...mickey-003.gif
Like, whatever the angle, ears are always drawm the same "frontal" way, just like on your side view.
Most volume renders of him go for symetrical tho, even in Kingdow Hearts... but I thought it was worth mentionning.
Good luck!

One of the more important differences I see between the concept and the actual model is the nose. Model has it way too elongated.

Yeah, I believe the people at square simply used a plane for mickies ears and made that plane always face the camera since his ears don't really make sense in 3d

Thanks for the comments guys its pretty much the same as i had been getting in other forums. the nose was too long and i managed to shorten it by near half. about maintaining a teh silhouette for the ears i think its just a matter of animating them to get that result

i think you have a good start and yes it is hard to bring a loved 2d character to 3d while being true to its shape. I think you should check out kingdom hearts and see what a good job they did on the characters. here I found 2 images that might help. even though one is mimi i think it could help you out in some way

your idea is very cool, heres a wireframe from the mickey by squaresoft, i think it could be a big help. mickey mouse is by no means an easy character to model.

I remember watching something about how to draw mikeys head, like disney animators. One rule they had is that his head is a perfect circle from all angles. Notcie the SE model

Wow thanks guys for the reference.. I guess I should have done my home work and found those images myself.. From teh wireframe it looks like mickey's whole face would have been executed as a smooth surface and a texture.. I myself tried to have pupils.. I guess I gotta bring it back to the work shop

yeah, i think a major thing to take into account is that you do not need to model, or provide edge loops for the eyes. Just paint them in the texture, it will most likely come out a lot better.
spend the polys on getting the head roundish, and a couple more in the ears, imo

Also bring up the cheeks.. your mickey looks sad.. In the first pics up there you can see his cheeks on the image plane and yours are a little low still. His eyes always seem to touch the insides of his face as well.
Good stuff though.

Dekard - His face is modeled that way so I can do shape animation later.. i might add more edges later so that the facial animation be as smooth as possible
arshlevon - thanks for the link bub!

you only really need to do the mouth for anim, the eyes can be done with blends between textures

the textures for all the kingdom hearts characters are hilarious. they are just a highres model baked onto the low res with GI and hue shifted mostly. looks gorgeous.
