Hey quick question, I have some old models I would like to dust off and take into z-brush but there built in tri’s and not quads. Is there anyway to convert tri’s to quads? I’m still searching on a way to do this properly but if anyone knows I’d really appreciate it. Thanks a bunch and happy holidays!

In maya under polygons you can select "Quadrangulate", this will convert your model to quads.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I'm using 3d max 7.0.

Wings has an "Untriangulate" tool that might help you out. It seems to work relatively well.

Worked like a charm even though you still have to do a bit of manual clean up. All in all thanks again!

PS: This should be built into max!

in max you can select all edges in edit mesh mode and scroll down, I dont know how it is called, but you can quadrangulate it based on the angle. however, then convert to poly and fix the rst (which looks mostly like much work, but is not)

"Hey I guess there is more than one way to skin a cat", I'll also try that as well. Thanks for the tip Shimmer!

blender can do it but horribly, and if it's a very high poly model it'll politely let you know that it's going to crash before it even starts.

Turn to mesh modifier set the minimum polys to 4.

Failing that, use a mesh bomb with min and max set to 4, blow the model apart with 0 strength and then sweep select the lot, backspace out the interior edges and weld it back. Crazy I know, but it works.

There's a script that does exactly that. Search for "polybomb" on scriptspot.
