I know there wa s adiscussion on the king kong game a while back, but I can't seem to find the thing. Anyway, I remember a number of people lamenting the lack of normal maps and fancy pants special effects. Well it would appear that if you've got the most powerful gaming machine money can buy, theres a PC version of the game out for all you whiney buggers. Behold:

I'm guessing these are XBox 360 assets ported directly to the PC. Gives you an idea how powerful the console is going to be if you compare the minimum specs for this thing.

having played the 360 version at comp usa with poop and jeffro i can say these are NOT 360 assets.. the 360 version is way more jaggified.. these models look double the rez of the 360 assets.. the only thing really next gen about the kong 360 version are the post process effects.. the models were super low poly compared to these...

Yeah this seems like a HUMUNGOUS fuckup on the developers part to me. As Arsh says, the very top shots are most definitely not from the 360 version. They were clearly under a massive ship deadline to get the 360 and pc versions out of the door, and both of them are positively crappy and hugely underutilizing their respective hardware.
Then they have the nerve to get it right after the fact and and ship a special uber edition? Downright bloody cheeky If you ask me.

I have the normal PC version. And it looks exactly like the 360 shots. That ultra version was shown in some trailer videos. Or it's shopped/hype art as is typical of console games. But if they dont offer a free patch, I'm going to have to say this is the 'jump the shark' of the game world. Selling high-res versions of games...bah. Just something to feed piracy and jealousy.

It plays like...hmm.. In first person, it's very similar to Turok. As kong, almost like prince of persia. Most of the kong environment moves (ie. jumping and swinging) feel railed. You just time things right and he does all the theatrical animations etc. The fighting is bland as kong, just button mashing. Environments though, are very very engrossing.

Like I said, the D2D highres version will no doubt be pirated in angst. Makes me want to return my copy straight to the developers with a big 'you've got to be shitting me' note on it, for this nonsense.

technology that was not available for us when we released the game 2 weeks ago! i can understand making a graphical update to say..half life 1, or going in and updating the graphics of AvP and releasing it, but when your special edition comes out days after the regular, thats just a load of fuck shit
