Bear with me trying to explain this! I hope the pictures help to clarify what im driving at.

Here's my loincloth ( front view ). Note that it has a 'lip' that folds forward over the top. Make sense? Also of note is that it doesn't have thickness. How I usually do cloth is not to make a solid mass, but a single sided poly with a 'hem' at the edge that is tucked under to give the impression of thickness. It's easier this way for a bunch of reasons.

Now, heres a view from the back and side, looking at the gap between the front and back pieces. You see my issue?! My head is bleeding trying to figure this one out. Any ideas appreciated:

Much simplified view of my problem. Now, If this model was 'as is' resolution, I could fudge it somehow, but the model is intended for subdivision, and no matter what I try, all hell breaks loose in that top right corner:

Er, forgive me if I'm missing something, but can't you just do this?

Make the "lip" bit double sided... the entire back of the rest of the loincloth can remain 1-sided... works for me!

Fun stuff... that's why working with Wings3d saves you from so much trouble.
At first volumebased modeling seems strange, but soon you realize that it really rocks when working with SubD meshes

Yeah but then you gotta have fully enclosed cloth, and thats a pain surely?! This shoulda been easy, I just made it look like it isn't. But yeah, I see your point. There is a certain elegance to software that can't physically let you create illegal geometry.

No, not Arnie, sumthin' else

You know, Max's Editable Poly wouldn't have let you build your mesh like that... illegal faces!

Nah, just have everybody do thier modeling in Wings 3d and import into Maya when you need to do the animations.
Way cheap. You might even get another promotion.

hehehe, I was also hit badley by Maya coming from MAX.
Got to learn that it is a really flexible programm allthough I personally am not really happy with the standard modelingtools. (lucky that the power of MEL got rid of that problem)

I donīt know if you have tryed the "append to polygon" tool. I would have solved it this way in Maya. Very dirty though but the outcome is correct
