Bring up Edit Window>Options>Advanced Options>Uncheck Show Grid>OK

To save these, got to the Options Menu Again, and choose "Save Current Settings as Default"

Stitch Selected is available off of the right click Quad Menu, lower right quad. Or in the main Max UI, got to Customize>Customize UI>Keyboad>Group=Unwrap>Stitch, and keybind it to whatever hotkey you want.

I use Chuggnut's TurboUnwrapUVW tool for unwrapping my models. Adds a lot of extra, nice tools. Puts stitch on a button with the other tools. Some real nice alignment and rotate buttons. Puts break vertices, weld vertices, and target weld on buttons along the top of the window. Hell, too many nice things to list about it.

Oh, and other useful UV hotkeys:

Control D: detach selected
Control B: Break
Control W: Weld

Freeform Gizmo: Control+Rotate activates angle snap
Control+Scale=uniform scale
Shift+Scale=1 axis scaling
