Hey, this is my first post here. It's a character I'm working on for a project with a friend. The idea is that the aliens you encounter on this planet are composed of a giant brain in some way The object at the top will be the brain and the thing hanging above it will be its eye.

It's my second time doing a humanoid character so any feedback on the concept or technical execution would be awesome.

Thanks!

Nice character! The upper body's got a lot of nice detail to it. The legs seem kinda bland though, especially compared to the upper body.

Cool design and style, mesh looks very good too. Nice work!
A good texture will make this look excellent.

really good upper body. the legs look like you used the Loomis male proportion chart. so you need to do something to make them more original.

I actually like the human legs. If you start looking at the model from bottom to top, you feel at first you are looking at something a little more human, then, it's like "whoa" it's an alien! Makes it a little sicker, IMHO.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

I think you have a point about the legs looking too human like and boring. I was looking at an anatomy book while working on them so I'll try out some changes on them. I think changing the shape of the feet could help with that as well.

First and foremost, rotate the feet out a bit, nothing looks more unnatural than having them directly forward.

On the legs, don't just change them to change them. Right now I kind of like how its an area of low detail, and it serves as back up for the main detail of the head. Do some thumbnails and come up with something good design and interesting that still doesn't steal focus from the upper body. This is looking really cool so far. I like it.

I just noticed he has 3 fingers. I liked it alot better when I thought it was just one long finger with a little dew-claw looking thing on the side. Thats just me though.

i gota agree , i thought it was 1 finger, would be more cool.

i think the head should be slightly bigger , like the concept.

Looks nice, reminds me of something out of an X-Com game. I'd like to see it skinned.

From the profile view... I would push the feet back, slightly past the center line. The figure looks like its about to tip back from not being balanced.

i love the look of this model, and i rather like his two long fingers. i think only one would make his arms look a little too much like tentacles.

Wow this thing looks creepy. My favourite part so far as his arms to hands area. Looks totally creep-tastic. As MoP said a good texture will make this already-awesome looking peice even more awesome. One thing I don't particularily like is the shape going on in the area where the back of his knees are. Very odd looking, but perhaps it goes with the rest of the characters design.

That looks great. I like the fingers as they are now. Reminds me of the War of the Worlds movie. Nice work.
