Hey guys!

Using 3D Studio max 4.2 to create a "cinematic" scene with two characters. I tried using "foot steps" to make one of the character walk onto the scene which worked really well, except for the fact that Max won't let me add keys after the final foot step key.
Basically I want the character to walk on screen and then do some stuff, but I can't finish the animation cause it won't let me add anything else. Says it will result in illegal timing. Is there any way to use "foot steps" along with typical rotation animation in Max or do I just have to stick with doing everything manually?

Thanks in advance!

I know I've done, but I can't remember exactly how. It's been a long time since I've used footsteps. Should be in the help file.

Well, I figured out how to clone keyframes last night, so I just used my walk cycle and got it repeating itself a few times over as a quick fix. Not quite as easy as foot steps, but it definitely looks better so no worries. Its just funny that the guys at discrete would integrate a feature like foot steps and then not let you use it along with traditional animation.

Thanks!

You can do it. I've done it before. It should explain how in the help files.

Footsteps like to keep the character in motion, so you'll probably want to convert the animation to freeform, once you've got the basic walk pinned down. Just convert to freeform (can't remember exactly where the button is), and animate the stuff after the walk.
