That's really aggravating. I can see "source" versions nice to have around. But honestly, I dont have lots of time to go through the original games for the 4th? time.

Why cant they offer two versions of normal games these days? CD and DVD? The amount of CD's they have to pack into boxes now, should make them more expensive than if they simply offered a DVD version in the box. (A: DVD production costs have reduced dramatically. B: All that CD weight mean more packing and shipping costs).

Yeah. I was only able to justify getting the Silver edition. I don't care if I don't get a real cd. Just one more thing for me to lose. But DoD:Source is definitly worth the extra $10.

I'm one of those people who want it on DVD, too. Screw HL:S, screw CS:S, hell, screw HL2 itself, I want the mod platform everybody's going to use in the near future and I don't want it split across six disks.

6 disks... You realize what a pain that is to install? Its just seems stupid in this day and age to not at least offer a choice without these super deluxe versions.

(To get the silver edition though is only through steam?)

Why PC games still get released on CDs is way beyond me.

goofy market research and non-standardized hardware, go figure.

i got the silver package. like k-man said, worth the extra ten for DOD:S, and having no CD feels really liberating, actually. i pray that valve gets free of their horrible agreement with VU, and that we can see the profits of more games go where they belong, not to the middlemen.

That's a real "d'oh" thing: Gamers spend 400 bucks on their graphics card but cannot be arsed to pay 20 for a DVD ROM drive... I'm sick of PC games being released on multiple CDs, nobody cares about the people who still use Voodoo 2s, why do they care about people who still use CD drives?

Well, because as you said yourself, there are very few PC Gamers who own such an outdated card and very many who don't own a DVD drive, as silly as that seems. DVD-ROM drives are dirt cheap and have all of the functionality of a CD-ROM drive; why do they even sell CD-ROM drives anymore .

Marine: You're lucky, here I have to import the DVD version. Think I'll do that, I remember how Valve butchered HL1 for the german release.
