The right computer for game artists

Hello guys,
I'm thinking to build a new computer and I have some dubts regarding game-art ideal computer.
I'm a gamer and since some time also a game artist/photographer; the programs I use are Adobe (most of their programs) AutoDesk Maya and 3DS Max, I plan to make some realistic renderings and learn to sculpt with Zbrush and polypaint with MARI...
I have chosen for an i7 4790K + MSI gamer M5 z97 + MSI GTX970 + 16GB RAM + 2 TB HDD and future plans to get a 500gb SSD.
Is this rig ideal?

Might aswell go with more ram, it doesnt add much more to the cost overall and you'll want it for keeping this smooth when running multiple programs or using really high resolution meshes in zbrush.

Not really necessary. I have 16 and the only time i'll get them full is by using Substance Designer with several 4K textures and 80 nodes, or by using Heavy fluid/smoke/particle simulations. Just buy an MB with enough slots to uprade, also buy 8GB sticks, so that you can ugrade later without changing the RAM sticks. If you'll need more you can always upgrade later.

I recommend to use a SSD right from the start, you could choose a smaller one if cost is a concern.
You want to run your OS on the SSD and all programs and games which need the performance. It's not impossible to move the OS later if you upgrade, but additional work, in worst case you have to install everything again.

SSD, definitely, I'd look in getting a motherboard that supports the m2 standard, so you could get a blazing fast Samsung SM951.

It doesnt need to be a huge SSD, just have one to begin with, i have a cheap 120gb one and its working realy fine.
(all other data and games that dont really need an ssd are on my both HDD's)
But if cost is no factor get a bigger one 120 gb is getting kiiinda cramped pretty fast

If you're springing for the i7 you might as well get the SSD immediately, even if you get a smaller SSD for apps and a larger HDD for storage.

Without the SSD the pc will be slow as a snail right out of the box.

I want to say there has been over 10 computer threads in the past 2-3 months with tons of info.

I'd suggest searching around in general discussion to see some other builds.

Yea kinda how we have a DSLR megathread. It just keeps everything organized and prevents the same question over and over again.

Certainly agree!! How could we do that? I have searched around but I couldn't find what I needed for this question...that's why I have posted

I have 16GB ram on my laptop and it's the minimum IMO. If I were buying a new pc right now I'd get more!
