So I recently made a model of a Crab battlemech, referencing the concept art from Mechwarrior online (you can see it here). I really enjoyed doing it, and thought doing another would be as fun. I also didn't do much to document the process apart from a few wip shots I saved along the way and figured I should post along the way, and maybe get some feedback.

I feel that overall your shapes are too big, especially on the top
didn't have as much time on it today, and spent so much of it on fiddly little bits it somehow looks like I didn't do much.
there's no info on what the back looks like, so I get to make it up. I'm wondering if it should protrude backwards more though.
I've still got to round out some corners and add smoothing where needed, and render it properly, but all the parts are now there.
added some colour too, to match the concept art.
I also recorded a time lapse of it all and will be posting that tomorrow.

I would take take what you have and take it to the next level as it stands now if you were to bake this model down some of that detail would be lost.
yes, AE., this would bake really really poorly, but that was never my intention.
nor was texturing, swaggletooth, sorry.
I did it with the goal of allowing MWO fans to be able to 3d print it, and used feedback from people interested in my earlier crab model to influence how I built it.
And while I expect that most people will be printing this in the 1" range, I put in a lot more detail than that both for the exercise of matching the concept, and for people who might use it for other fan pojects or prints at larger scales.
