Hi there! For my newest school project I am making a Chinese courtyard for unity. I'll be posting stuff as I go, any comments and critiques are most welcome as I am still learning the ropes.

Here is what I have modeled so far. (Is there an appropriate way to display this?)

I brought it into Unity and began texturing it using Vertex Paint and Shader Forge. I have been struggling trying to get a cube map on the water, are there any good guides on that?

Before you start modeling, try to plan for reuse. Have you studied modular workflows? A great deal of your scene can be made from modular pieces, which will save you time and effort (and look good in a folio).

I have tried before and am starting to get a sense of it. I am actually trying to make a good wood texture/trim that I can use right now. I'll see how that works.

This is what I have so far in unity. I am adding the last few trinkets around to fill the scene.

I am trying to use a hinge joint and a windzone to move the upper window. Is there any trick to that?

The problem with this one is that it's a very tight (low FOV) and a vertical shot so it's very very hard to get the right composition with a landscape-type shot.

I don't know Unity but maybe there are ways to flip your monitor to get a vertical shot? I know you can do it in UDK.

We are at least to working on the same scene (Well, I did not make any progress for month..)

I did contact the author of the concept art and got some informations about the chinese text of the scene.
